Sony To Announce Flagship Smartphone With 6-Inch Bezel-Less Screen At IFA 2017

Rumors are going around that Sony will unveil a new smartphone at the IFA 2017. The rumored new smartphone will have a 6-inch LCD display with an 18:9 Univisium aspect ratio. This means the new Sony flagship smartphone will have a bezel-less design.

The said flagship smartphone will supposedly have the same hardware as the Sony Xperia XZ Premium. This bit of news comes from a post on Weibo, according to WCCFTech. While it is still too early to believe the rumor, it should be noted that Japan Display Inc. or JDI, a joint venture by Sony, Hitachi, and Toshiba that is involved in LCD technology and manufactures displays, announced earlier that mass production of its Full Active QD display is already ongoing. In other words, the display necessary for the bezel-less smartphone from Sony is already being made.

Renowned 3D artist Saber Kchikech created a render of the supposed Sony Xperia flagship. The concept video shows a 6-inch smartphone with extremely slim bezels, a look that is completely different from what Sony has been making in years. As Android Headlines noted, the concept still maintains an aura that it's made by Sony even if it is very distinct from anything that the company has ever made.

Kchikech made use of Sony's patented Omnibalance design giving the render that symmetrical look Sony has been known for. The artist made a few adjustments that would coincide with the smartphone's alleged features and functions. The render also ditches the physical home button because of its bezel-less design. Other notable features of the Sony concept is its glossy silver finish and metal unibody design. The supposed Sony flagship smartphone also comes with a single lens camera with dual-LED flash.

Sony is clearly up to something. In fact, it already announced a press conference to be held on August 31 which will be a day before IFA 2017 will open its doors.
