TikTok is one of the social media and content creation platforms that people around the world frequent these days. You can find informative content, things that will make you laugh or frown, and even practical life hacks and tips that will help you get through each day.

However, there are restrictions as to what content can be published on TikTok. Some of what should not be posted can even get you temporarily or permanently banned from using the platform. Do you know what they are?

There are a number of things that will get you banned from TikTok as far as the content you upload is concerned. According to an article by MakeUseOf, these include the following:

Blackmail

Unsurprisingly, blackmail and other similar threats are not allowed on TikTok.

Furthermore, content that contains threats to share someone's personal information and sensitive data, including but not limited to residential address, bank records, passport details, and social security number, is likewise a violation of TikTok's rules and guidelines.

Graphic and Violent Content

This is pretty much self-explanatory but it should be noted that, per MakeUseOf, horror movie clips may fall under this category. This is because TikTok prohibits content that contains gore as well as content that is described as "gratuitously shocking" or "glorifies extreme violence or suffering."

Graphic videos of accidents and injuries are likewise not allowed on TikTok.

Illegal Activities

Another type of content that will get you on trouble on TikTok are those that promote illegal activities. This includes human trafficking or exploitation, illegal wildlife trading, and even the act of encouraging other people to commit illegal acts.

Not only will it get your TikTok account banned, you just might get in trouble with law enforcement authorities.

Self-Harm

If you are not allowed to harm other people in the content you post on TikTok, you are not likewise allowed to share content that depicts or encourages self-harm either. According to MakeUseOf, this includes content that depicts or encourages eating disorders, self injuries, and suicide.

"In the same vein, posting content that encourages taking part in risky activities in a 'non-professional context' is against TikTok's community guidelines," the report adds.

Threats to Public Safety

If threats to individuals are not allowed on TikTok, it goes without saying that threats made to the public are not allowed as well. This includes content that encourages or advocates for other people to commit acts of violence.

Temporary or Permanent Ban

Should your content be in violation of TikTok's guidelines, there is a chance that your account may either be temporarily or permanently banned.

According to the TikTok website, a temporary ban happens when the platform suspends "your account's ability to upload a video, comment, or edit your profile for a period of time (typically between 24 or 48 hours), depending on the severity of the violation and previous violations."

Your account may likewise be restricted to view-only. This may last anywhere from 72 hours to one week. During this time, you cannot post or engage with others on TikTok.

On the other hand, a permanent ban may happen after several violations of the platform's guidelines.

Can You Appeal if Your Account Has Been Banned?

Should your account be banned, you will receive a banner notification the next time you open the app.

However, if you feel that your account has been incorrectly banned, you can actually appeal, according to a separate post on the TikTok website.

To appeal, simply tap the notifcation and then select Appeal when prompted. After that, all you have to do is follow the instructions provided.
