Nintendo Switch Online App Now Allows You to Send Friend Requests

Install the Nintendo Switch Online app on your phone or tablet, and start adding your friends!

A recent update from Nintendo Switch Online app lets users access game-specific service such as finding friends online and using voice chat during matches. This can be done by simply using your phone or your tablet.

Users can now finally send friend requests directly from the app, thanks to the new update.

Users Can Now Send Friend Request Using Nintendo's Friend Code

As per 9to5Mac, the release notes for Nintendo Switch Online version 2.2.0 noted that the app now "has the option to send friend requests using Nintendo's friend code."

Moreover, according to Nintendo, you can now copy your friend code as a URL. You also have the option to save it as a QR Code that you can share with others. Through this, sending friend requests is made easier.

Nintendo uploaded a step-by-step process to guide users on the steps how they can add their friends when using the app.

However, for now, accepting friend request can only be done using a Nintendo Switch console. Therefore, even if you have the Nintendo Switch Online app installed in your phone or table, you cannot use your device to accept a friend invitation.

As per The Verge, this brand-new code system for multiplayer matches is a "step back" from the Nintendo Network ID system used for the Wii U.

The report from 9to5Mac said that Nintendo seems to be making an attempt to fix the inconvenience with new ways that would allow users to find and add their friends.

As per Tech Times report, in addition to adding friends directly, the new update also allows users to search for them through the app.

Nintendo Switch Online updates typically do more than what the release notes say. Dataminers are usually the one who discover the additional and secret changes.

iOS 14 Now Required to Install Nintendo Switch Online

In a tweet using its Japanese account, Nintendo had confirmed last month that an update to the Nintendo Switch Online app would stop supporting some older iPhone and iPad models.

Thus, today's update to the Nintendo Switch Online app now requires that your device should be running on iOS 14. The previous version of the app was compatible with iOS 12 and later.

This only means that the app will no longer work with iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, the 1st-generation iPad Air, iPad mini-3, and the 6th-generation iPod touch, as per 9to5Mac.

If you have a new device but it still has iOS 12 installed, all you have to do is simply update it to the latest iOS version in order to be able to install the Nintendo Switch Online app.

Check the iOS version of your iPhone or iPad by going to Settings, then General, finally About. If it is not the latest iOS version yet, simply click download and install to update.

You can get the Nintendo Switch Online app for free on the iOS App Store.
