On top of that, the social media giant is also testing out view counters on tweets.

Twitter Verified Phone Number Tag

While Twitter has a much-coveted blue check verification mark, the giant social network is also working on a new label, marking that the phone number is verified.

As per the latest news from The Verge, Twitter is seemingly working on a new feature that labels users with verified phone numbers straight from their accounts.

An engineer, Jane Manchun Wong, discovered that Twitter is currently testing a new label, which specifically identifies users with verified phone numbers.

Wong shared a screenshot of what the new tag would look like when it started rolling out on Twitter profiles.

Unlike the blue check, the verified phone number tag is less noticeable. It only adds a "verified phone number" text below the location and URL on the profiles of its users.

So if you have already linked in the phone number on your Twitter account, you might get the said label once it starts officially rolling out to millions of users. The Verge notes in its report that Twitter currently allows users to link a single phone number to a total of ten various accounts on the social media platform.

On the other hand, developers on Twitter could state that their account is automated to let people know it is actually a bot.

Twitter and Phone Numbers

If ever you are using a Twitter account with no verified phone number, linking your number is quite easy to do. Twitter says on its support page that "adding a phone number to your account is a great step toward a better Twitter experience." The social media giant says that it helps to secure your account as it brings features like two-factor verification.

And if ever you forgot your password or someone else took over it, the recovery process is easier with your phone number. But despite that, it is also worth noting that linking your number could also expose your contact details to cyber attackers.

According to a report by 9to5 Mac, Twitter has recently confirmed that a Twitter data breach exposed the email addresses and phone numbers of 5.4 million users.

Twitter Tweet View Counts

On top of the phone number verification labs, Wong also reveals a new tweet view counter, which sits between the like or "heart" button and the share option. However, the engineer notes that it remains to be seen if Twitter would show the view counter to everyone else or if it would be exclusive to the author of the tweet.
