Report Says That Samsung S24 Will Be the First Smartphone to Support Wi-Fi 7

According to Sam Mobile, there is a high possibility that a Samsung phone will be among the first smartphones to support Wi-Fi 7.

As the Wi-Fi technology arrives in 2024, it is highly likely that Samsung S24 will be among the first smartphones to be supported Wi-Fi 7. The said phone is expected to arrive in two years time.

Since Samsung has always been one of the leading Android phones to offer the newest version of Wi-Fi to users, it is not surprising that Samsung is one of the first smartphones to feature Wi-Fi 7.

Electronic manufacturers are currently "transitioning" from Wi-Fi 6 with a 5 GHz band to Wi-Fi 6E with a 6 GHz band. The latter is said to offer higher performance, lower latency, and faster data rates.

Another great feature of the Wi-Fi 6E with 6GHz band is it supports multiple devices at optimum performance.

According to ITD (via Wi-Fi Alliance), electronic manufacturers can make use of the additional 6 GHz band capacity to "deliver continuous Wi-Fi innovation and valuable contributions to consumers, businesses, and economies."

Wi-Fi 7 allows the use of 320MHz channels. Moreover, it supports 4K quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) technology. This means that Wi-Fi 7 provides up to 2.4x faster speeds.

Wi-Fi 7 is considered as the "next major generational Wi-Fi technology evolution." The said Wi-Fi version should provide a speed of "at least 30" gigabits per second. The said Wi-Fi technology could even hit 40Gbps.

At this speed rate, it is already fast enough to support the next-generation AR/VR, 8K video streaming, and gaming devices.

Will Apple Adopt Wi-Fi 7 Soon?

Apple has not issued any statement when it is planning to feature Wi-Fi 7 in its products. The company skipped the Wi-Fi 6E, which has been available in the market since 2019.

Currently, Apple still uses Wi-Fi 6 in its latest products. The iPhone 14 series, 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro (2021), as well as the M2 MacBook Air and MacBook Pro (2022) still support Wi-Fi 6.

Wi-Fi 7 is expected to debut as early as 2024. If Apple will move directly to support the upcoming Wi-Fi technology, this only means that Apple will skip Wi-Fi 6E, as per MacRumors.

With the upcoming launch of Wi-Fi 7, Wi-Fi 6E can be considered as "a transitional technology" only.

Wi-Fi 7 is expected to arrive first in routers and notebooks before it becomes available to smartphones.

MediaTek conducted a demonstration of Wi-Fi 7 in January. Following this, Intel already expressed its plan to adopt Wi-Fi 7 in its upcoming PC laptops by 2024.

Currently, Intel is developing the next-generation connectivity technology. This is being done in order to secure the Wi-Fi Alliance certification.
