Henry Cavill’s Exit in ‘The Witcher’ was a Little Underwhelming

Fans are almost reluctant to watch the season three finale of "The Witcher" since it will be the last episode where Henry Cavill plays the role of the protagonist, Geralt of Rivia. The final episodes not only failed to address major changes in the next season, it appears to also be a weak farewell to the actor.

Volume Two was Not What People Expected

Just a word of warning, there will be spoilers ahead. The second volume of the third season of the show was released on July 27th, and while others have been saving the minutes because it will be the last of Cavill as Geralt, many have binged the three episodes in one go.

The showrunners, it seems, didn't feel like giving the former Superman actor a big exit after teasing that they will beforehand. We did get to see a fight between Geralt and the overpowered Vilgefortz, but it led to the witcher losing and being bedridden for almost all of his final scenes.

As far as "epic" endings go, as mentioned in Gizmodo, it was a little underwhelming. Instead of an action-packed second volume, we see Geralt at his lowest point: Losing Ciri and getting crippled by a mage using a huge stick.

Fans also expected that the writers would at least add some kind of context that would explain how Geralt would have a different face for the next season, but there was nothing there, really. The last scene shows Geralt heading to Nilfgaard with Jaskier and Milva.

Perhaps in the next season, the witcher will arrive at the empire with a new face and go on with the show like nothing's changed, kind of like Marvel changing the actor for James Rhodes, except Geralt is literally the titular character.

Another thing that fans were disappointed about is that they were somehow robbed of their final moments with the trio. In the first volume of season three, we were given the chance to see Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri appear like an actual family.

Although we did see them together in the second volume for a bit, they were still separated the majority of the time. While Geralt was recovering from the beating he got, Yennefer was helping out mages in Aretuza, and Ciri was deliriously wandering the desert she teleported to.

How The Show Plans to Transition Geralt

Since the final episodes didn't really say how it would happen, the transition might be explained in the next season. The producer has already teased how it would be explained, but some fans aren't too happy with it.

According to IGN, an executive producer for "The Witcher" says that it will be a multiverse transition, even saying that the opening for the fourth season will be "really true to the book." Fans who've read the books are yet to make sense of that statement.

For one, the multiverse in the show's universe is unlike Marvel's where there are multiple realities happening at once where we can find an alternate version of ourselves. Instead, it's simply different worlds or "spheres" which are completely different from each other.

Either way, we will still be seeing a new face for Geralt as Liam Hemsworth takes over the role. Whether they'll have a "true to the book" explanation for that is yet to be seen.
