Netflix has been taking some flak about their cast choices when it comes to original productions, especially with the whole "Queen Cleopatra" mess. However, they do get it right from time to time, and these characters are proof that the streaming service's casting choices aren't always a flop.
1. Kaz Brekker in 'Shadow and Bone'
Kaz Brekker is a character from the Grishaverse based on the "Shadow and Bone" trilogy written by Leigh Bardugo. In the books, he was described as a man with pale skin, a sharp jawline, and dark hair that was trimmed on the sides. He also had a lean muscular build. In both appearance and personality, actor Freddy Carter nailed the role.
2. Geralt of Rivia in 'The Witcher'
This list will not be complete unless we mentioned Henry Cavill's portrayal of Geralt of Rivia. Author Andrzej Sapkowski described Geralt as pale and skinny with an unpleasant voice and an ugly smile. Obviously, Cavill is the opposite of that, but he was so faithful to the source material that he was able to embody the character flawlessly. Sadly, we won't see more of him.
3. Anne Cuthbert in 'Anne with an E'
The series was based on a novel titled "Anne of Green Gables" by Lucy Maud Montgomery. Her character was depicted as red-haired, homely, ugly, skinny, and freckled. Obviously, Amybeth McNulty who played Anne is a beautiful actress, but the magic of hair and makeup turned her into the character she was meant to be.
4. Cirilla of Cintra in 'The Witcher'
Geralt was not the only character who was perfectly cast. Freya Allen was also close to how Ciri was described in the books. She was said to be slender and had silvery-blond hair. Allen was able to pull off a "boyish" character, which is how Criri was. One attribute that was different was the color of her eyes which should've been emerald green, but it's not really as necessary.
5. Katara in 'Avatar: The Last Airbender'
Netflix is set to release the live adaptation of "Avatar: The Last Airbender." It appears that they have learned from M. Night Shyamalan's mistakes as they cast Kiawentiio as Katara. The actress was born into a Mohawk family, who are part of a community of indigenous people around North America, giving the character a native representation.
6. Wednesday Addams in 'Wednesday'
Wednesday Addams is originally from the "Addams Family" cartoon made by Charles Addams. The previous movie adaptations have already gotten it right, and actress Jenna Ortega did so as well. She captured the character's dark personality and fascination with the macabre. As for appearance, she also dons black attire and wears her hair in twin braids.
7. Reginald Hargreeves in 'The Umbrella Academy'
The Netflix series is based on the comic books created by My Chemical Romance lead vocalist, Gerard Way. Colm Feore played the cold and unfeeling father so well, and he even has the same look with comics Reginald with the handlebar mustache and the distinctive monocle.
