xAI Debuts in Technological Industry

Musk first announced the existence of his AI startup in July, describing it as a way to "understand the true nature of the universe." The X owner is joined by experienced people who have previously worked on DeepMind, OpenAI, Google Research, Microsoft Research, Tesla, and the University of Toronto.

In an X post, Musk unveiled the release date of his AI company. Prior to its launch, it was reported that Musk secured thousands of high-powered GPU processors from Nvidia, which is a similar chip used for building large language models like OpenAI ChatGPT or Google Bard.

Musk, who was originally one of the people behind OpenaAI, left the board in 2018. He also became an open critique of the company after leaving. In an interview with Fox News Channel, the xAI owner asserted that he is going to start a "TruthGPT" or a maximum truth-seeking AI.

xAI Will Work Closely With Musk's Companies

While the xAI organization is a separate body from X, the website of company stated that it will work closely with Musk's other companies including the former Twitter and Tesla. Meanwhile, upon the announcement of xAI, the company also opened a hiring position.

Team advisor Dan Hendrycks, who served as the director of the Center for AI Safety published a letter last May, tackling the importance of mitigating the risk of extinction from AI. However, the letter was met with criticism from the tech community.

Not much has been known about how the Musk-led AI startup will affect the tight competition between AI companies. More information will be given once the event launching happens.
