Epic Games Store Announces Arrival to Android, iOS

Epic Games announced that its app store is finally coming to iOS and Android, claiming to be the "true multi-platform" store.

The Epic Games Store (EGS) has been offering an alternative platform to Valve's Stream on PC for years already.

Epic Games Store to Open on Smartphones

Epic introduced its plans during the State of Unreal Engine 2024 event. "EGS will become the first ever game-focused, multi-platform store, and will work across Android, iOS, PC, and macOS," the company announced.

Moreover, Epic also revealed that mobile developers will receive the same benefits and fair terms on EGS for PCs. This means that Epic and the developers will have an 88/12 revenue share.

In addition, there are also programs where developers can keep 100% of the revenue when using their own payments for in-purchases, Epic First Run, and Now On Epic.

Currently, the company is still mum on what games will be offered on the mobile version of EGS. Fortnite, one of Epic's most popular games, is expected to be available although the app has been distributed by the Epic Games Launcher since 2019.

Epic Games Pushes Plans for iOS Version

The EGS situation on iOS has been nothing but a rollercoaster both for Epic and Apple. Previously, the two companies had to go back and forth before resolving the developer account of Epic Games.

The most recent report showed that Apple has promised to reinstate Epic's account, allowing it to create its alternative marketplace and bring back Fortnite to iOS users in the European Union.

Apple also revised some of its policies for alternative marketplaces by implementing a notarization process.

"Through a combination of automated checks and human review, Notarization helps ensure apps are free of known malware, viruses, or other security threats, function as promised, and don't expose users to egregious fraud," the company argued.

The final look for the EGS both for Android and iOS is still under wraps as Epic only showed a concept photo during the event. Regardless, the company promised to reveal more details soon.
