Elon Musk's xAI will soon enable its AI chatbot Grok to all X (formerly Twitter) premium subscribers. At least that is what Musk claims it to be.

In an X post on Tuesday, the platform's billionaire announced that the chatbot will soon be available to all subscribers, not just those subscribed under "Premium+," "later this week."

It is worth noting that X's Grok is limited to only select territories regardless of premium subscription. This means, technically, not everyone will be able to access the chatbot, contrary to what Musk said.

The announcement comes after Musk said that Grok will soon be open-sourced as it competes against OpenAI's ChatGPT in the race for AI dominance.

Musk, who also founded OpenAI, is currently embroiled in a legal battle with the AI firm for supposed breach of contract from its founding principles.

X Continues to Lose Active Users on the Platform

X's move to expand the availability of its paywalled features comes in as the platform continues to lose active users since Musk took over social media in October 2022.

The increased visibility of bots and the increased server outage has been noted to be the main cause of active user decline on the platform.

NBC News earlier reported that X use has gone down by nearly 20% since last year. X is considered to have the biggest user loss in comparison to other social media competitors.

X's Revenue Expected to Tank in 2024

Active users are not the only loss the social media platform has reportedly been losing under the Musk leadership.

X Corp, the parent company of X, reported lower revenues across advertisements and premium services in the past financial quarter following a mass exodus of brands last year.

The biggest to date was during November after the nonprofit advocacy group Center for Countering Digital Hate reported sponsored posts appearing next to hate speech and pro-Nazi posts.

X CEO Linda Yaccarino has been trying to regain some of the lost advertisers back on the site but many major brands like Disney refused to answer the request.
