TikTok Becomes First Social Media to Adapt Content Credential

In a press release, TikTok shared that the initiative marked the company as the first video-sharing platform to use Content Credential tagging. The company also explained that the tagging will prevent viewers from being misled by AI-generated posts.

TikTok has previously labeled posts that were done through its AI effects feature. Realistic AI-generated posts by creators are required to be properly labeled. Starting today, the platform will tag AI-generated images and videos.

"Anyone will be able to use C2PA's Verify tool to help identify AIGC that was made on TikTok and even learn when, where, and how the content was made or edited," the company announced. The feature will soon apply also to audio-only content.

TikTok Invests on Media Literacy Resources

TikTok is also partnering with various experts to develop media literacy campaigns to increase knowledge about AI-generated content and misinformation. The company is collaborating with MediaWise and WITNESS to produce materials.

MediaWise will release 12 videos this year on TikTok to explain how proper tagging of AI-generated content can help mitigate misinformation online. Meanwhile, WITNESS will launch a campaign centering on AI labeling, the potential impact of misleading content, and more.

TikTok also stated that the company is firm in being vigilant about bad actors that use AI in a bad way. The platform has been used for the past years to create misleading content, especially on elections.

Our policies firmly prohibit harmfully misleading AI-generated content-whether it's labeled or not-and signed an industry pact this year to combat the use of deceptive AI in elections," the company wrote.
