Price. The Vivo V5 retail price is $261. The retail price of the Coolpad Mega 3 is only $103. The winner of this round is the Coolpad Mega 3 due to its low price.
Network. The networks featured in the Vivo V5 are GSM, HSPA, and LTE. On the other hand, the networks featured in the Coolpad Mega 3 are also GSM, HSPA, and LTE. Now, because both smartphones feature the same number of networks and names, I will make this round a draw.
Design. The body dimensions of the Vivo V5 are 6.06 x 2.97 x 0.30 inches and weighs 154 g. While the body dimensions of the Coolpad Mega 3 are 5.98 x 3.03 x 0.32 inches and weighs 170 g. Personally, I really find it a sin whenever a phone is heavy even though its size if not that big. Well, of course, what the device is carrying is a factor, but still, I find it as a sin. Also, my ideal weight for a phone is 145-150 g. With that being said, I will give this round to the Vivo V5.
Display. The Vivo V5's screen is a 5.5 inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen (16M colors) that is protected with an unspecified Corning Gorilla Glass with a display resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. On the other hand, the Coolpad Mega 3's screen is also a 5.5 inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen (16M colors) with a screen resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. The only difference is that the Coolpad Mega 3's screen is protected with a scratch-resistant glass.
To be honest, the scratch-resistant feature really caught my eye, but is it as tough as the Gorilla Glass? Let's face it, when your phone's screen has many scratches, it kind of frustrates you to look at it. However, what is worse compared to a scratched screen is a shattered screen. With that being said, I will stick with the Gorilla Glass and give this round to the Vivo V5.
Platform. The Vivo V5 runs on Android OS, v6.0 (Marshmallow) and is powered by the MediaTek MT6750 chip. Its CPU is a 1.8 GHz Octa-core Processor and the GPU is the Mali T860. On the other hand, the Coolpad Mega 3 also runs on Android OS, v6.0 (Marshmallow) but is powered by a Mediatek MT6737 chip. Its CPU is a Quad-core 1.2 GHz and features the same GPU, the Mali-T860. Based on the platform specs, the Vivo V5 is superior on the chipset and CPU, making it the winner of this round.
Internal Memory. The built-in storage of the Vivo V5 is 32 GB and features 4 GB of RAM. The built-in storage of the Coolpad Mega 3 is only 16 GB and features 2 GB of RAM. Yeah, the winner of this round is obvious. This round goes to the Vivo V5.
Camera. The Vivo V5's rear camera is 13 MP and 20 MP for its front camera. For its video, it shoots 1080p@30fps. On the other hand, both cameras of the Coolpad Mega 3 features 8 MP. For its video, it shoots only 720p@30fps. This round goes to the Vivo V5.
Battery. The Vivo V5 houses a non-removable Li-Ion 3000 mAh battery. While the Coolpad Mega 3 houses a non-removable Li-Po 3050 mAh battery. This got me surprised. I did not expect the Coolpad Mega 3 to have a higher spec battery. This round goes to the Coolpad Mega 3.
Features. The sensory features of the Vivo V5 are fingerprint (front-mounted), accelerometer, proximity, and compass. The sensory features of the Coolpad Mega 3 are accelerometer and proximity. Given that the Vivo V5 has more sensory features to offer, this round goes to the Vivo V5.
The Tally
The tally is Vivo V5 with 6 wins and the Coolpad Mega 3 with 2 wins. Though the Vivo V5 is equipped with higher specs, I was surprised that Coolpad Mega 3 has good specs for a $103 smartphone. I personally think that it is a great phone to have if you're thinking of buying an affordable and well-built smartphone.
