Sony is rumored to launch a 6.4-inch phablet, given the moniker "Togari" sometime this year. Now a new piece of information has emerged, which suggests that the Sony Xperia L4 Togari will have a full HD display and the screen recognize inputs from any pen or pencil.
The latest news comes from two independent sources who have apaprently received the information straight from the horse's mouth - Sony representatives.
According to a GizBot report, "When asked about whether Sony is prepared to tackle forthcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 3 or not, the company source close to the matter told GizBot that the Sony is working on a device with bigger display."
The tech site also revealed that "the source was reluctant to share this info, but later told us that there is a handset with extra large display. It's in a prototype form at the moment. It should be announced either at IFA Berlin 2013 or CES 2014."
The second source of information, confirming the existence of the Xperia Togari, is the Greek site Techblog which reveals that the "screen will understand any conventional means such as writing pen and pencil (translated)." Techblog also disclosed that the codename of the phablet is Xperia L4.
"Today we can confirm and second source this information and we can add that the 6.4 inch screen Full HD of L4 can be used with any pen or pencil, not only pen! (translated)," the site reported.
The Xperia L4 or Togari will apparently have the same design as Sony's 2013 flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z. It is not known if the bigger sibling will also be waterproof like its counterpart.
The Xperia L4 will allegedly pack in a powerful Snapdragon 600 or 800 processor, which the impending Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is also expected to tout. The phablet will have 2GB of RAM and a 13-megapixel primary camera with Exmor RS sensor per the report.
Previously, rumors have pointed to a 6.44 inch 1920 x1080 IPS screen for the Sony phablet. The Togari was also speculated to tout 3GB of RAM and a MSM8974 krait 800 processor clocked at 2.3GHz. The NFC-enabled phablet is also believed to pack in 32GB of on-board memory, a 13-megapixel primary camera, a 2-megapixel secondary camera, a 3500mAh battery, and a stylus.
The Xperia L4 or Togari is expected to release in the second half of 2013 to take on Samsung's Galaxy Note 3.
