Send it a text message and the machine will brew up a fresh cup of espresso for you.
Textspresso was created by the people at Zipwhip, a technology startup company based in Seattle. The company is actually known for its cloud texting technology that allows users to text and get messages using a computer.
The people at Zipwhip decided to come up with a perfect blend of technology and love for coffee. The text-powered coffee machine was created by re-engineering a De'Longhi espresso maker and adding a Raspberry Pi computer specifically programmed for the contraption.
An employee who wants a cup can simply text the Textspresso machine. The machine then picks a cup, brings it under the nozzle of the machine, blends the drink of choice, prints out an identifier using an edible ink, and returns the cup to the tray warmer. The Textpresso machine will even notify the employee that his or her cup is ready. When the machine runs out of water or beans, it can also send a notification via text that it needs a refill.
The people at CNET gave their two cents about the concept bean-brewer. In the Editors Note Section, it said that the Textspresso might be able to help an office become more productive as employees do not have to wait in the pantry while the coffee is brewing. However, it noted that the details need to be perfected before any manufacturer thinks of commercializing the product.
"We are not in the business of making these machines commercially. This is the only machine of its kind and it'll be living right here in our Seattle headquarters," the Zipwhip blog revealed.
While the company has no plans of adding the Textspresso machine to its product catalog, it is clear that the product is a good way to show off their cloud texting technology.
For those interested, Zipwhip announced through its blog that it will open source the build plan and codes of the Textspresso machine in the near future.
