LG releases Optimus F3 smartphone for the visually impaired for $29.99

U.S. carrier Sprint will be offering the LG Optimus F3 from June 14, which packs in features to aid the visually impaired and will be offered at an affordable $29.99.

The Optimus F3 has the distinction of being the first-ever U.S. smartphone that enables those who are "visually impaired to receive voice prompts right out of the box with TalkBack by Google." It will cost $29.99 (post rebate) on a two-year contract with Sprint.

"Sprint is committed to providing technology that meets the needs of all of our consumers," opines Sprint CEO Dan. "The LG Optimus F3 offers a robust list of features for any customer, and it is uniquely empowering for people with disabilities."

The LG Optimus F3 packs in the text-to-speech app TalkBack, which can be accessed easily. This feature helps the blind and visually-impaired users to handle their smartphone with more ease. The voice guidance helps the users in setting up the phone.

"Combining intelligent features with the user-friendly LG interface, the LG Optimus F3 allows users to easily collaborate and communicate while handling a variety of tasks or enjoying entertainment content," notes LG Electronics USA President and CEO Wayne Park. "This device exemplifies LG's commitment to delivering compelling accessibility features."

The LG Optimus F3 features a 4-inch vivid IPS display (800 x 480 pixels resolution) with Corning Gorilla Glass 2. The smartphone also houses a dual-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz. The device also has a 5-megapixel primary camera and a secondary VGA camera. The Cheese Shot feature lets users take voice-activated photos by simply saying cheese!

The Optimus F3 packs in a 2460 mAh battery and comes pre-loaded with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean out of the box.

The smartphone also has access to Sprint's 4G LTE network and comes with the Accessible Education ID pack, which is downloadable and makes it easy for K-12 students with print disabilities "to access Web-based educational resources on their smartphone."

The LG Optimus F3 will be offered in two hues: silver and purple. The smartphone will be available for purchase from Sprint's online store (and retails stores) or by calling 1-800-SPRINT June 14 onward.
