T-Mobile is expected to launch the Sony Xperia Z in mid-July, and a few photos have now leaked with the handset showing the carrier's branding.
The carrier has already announced its plans to launch the Xperia Z but it did not reveal an exact release date. However, a new report suggests that the Sony smartphone will debut on T-Mobile along with the Nokia Lumia 925 on Wednesday, July 17.
"T-Mobile customers traveling this summer will love the Xperia Z with its big, beautiful HD screen, water-resistant design and advanced camera features," said Jason Young, vice president of product marketing, T-Mobile. "This is an outstanding combination: a premium 4G LTE smartphone with Sony's best features coupled with T-Mobile's unlimited data and speedy nationwide network."
Currently, T-Mobile has an array of Android-powered smartphones in its handset portfolio but the carrier doesn't have any Sony smartphone on offer.
Launched at the International CES 2013, the Sony Xperia Z was one of the first top-end smartphones launched in this year. The handset has reached many regions since its release in Q1 2013, but the people stateside had to wait a bit longer to get their hands on the Sony handset.
The Xperia Z will be available on the carrier in black and purple color options and the handset has already appeared on T-Mobile's webpage with a "coming soon" label. The Xperia Z is expected to be available nationwide at T-Mobile retail stores, select national retailers and also from T-Mobile dealers.
The Sony handset packs in impressive features, including a 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor that powers the handset. However, it lags behind the HTC One and both the Exynos 5 and Snapdragon 600 versions of the Samsung Galaxy S4.
A recent report suggests that Sony will launch a refreshed version of the Xperia Z which will pack in a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. The T-Mobile official press release doesn't mention anything about the processor of the upcoming Xperia Z on the carrier, but customers will be hoping that it will include the latest Snapdragon 800 processor.
July 17 is just a few weeks away from now, so we will have to wait a while before T-Mobile officially takes the wraps off its version of Sony Xperia Z.
