Twitter Introduces Twitter Shops

Twitter Shops is now on beta, according to an announcement by the social media giant itself.

"With Twitter Shops, merchants can handpick a collection of up to 50 products to showcase to shoppers on Twitter," the announcement reads.

Twitter adds that the social media platform wants "Twitter Shops to be the home for merchants on Twitter where they can intentionally curate a catalog of products for their Twitter audience and build upon the product discussions already happening on our service by giving shoppers a point of action where a conversation can become a purchase."

The feature is free to use and pretty much gives merchants a virtual storefront for their products. This helps not only merchants, but also buyers because it makes browsing through products all the more convenient.

However, a report by The Verge has pointed out that Twitter Shops does not let buyers purchase products via the feature. This means that the listings will direct buyers instead to the brand's actual website.

Twitter Shops is the latest addition to the Twitter Shopping features that the social media platform has come up to help both merchants and shoppers on the app. Other features include Live Shopping, Shopping Manager, and Shop Module.

How Twitter Shops Works

Twitter Shops is actually pretty simple and straightforward to use.

According to Twitter, it all starts with the profile of the merchant that has the Twitter Shops feature enabled. Locate the "View Shop" button on the profile and click or tap it.

Once that is done, the virtual storefront will appear and you can now browse through the items that are being sold. Click on the specific product you want to buy and you will then be led to an in-app browser where you can checkout via the brand's website.

Which Brands are Currently Part of Twitter Shops?

Per the report by The Verge, brands that are currently using the Twitter Shops feature include the following:

  • All I Do is Cook
  • Arden Cove
  • Gay Pride Apparel
  • Latinx in Power podcast
  • Verizon

As the feature is still on beta, it has only rolled out to a select number of merchants in the United States. Only iOS users in the US can only use the feature as of press time. This, however, is expected to change in the future.
