Sony is yet to launch the purported Honami and now rumors suggest that the Japanese company will also launch a 'Mini' version of the handset.
Samsung launched the mini version of its Galaxy S3 in 2012 and the smaller sibling of the Galaxy S4 flagship made its debut in April this year. Reports also suggest that HTC may launch a mini version of its recently launched flagship HTC One very soon.
The Galaxy S4 sports a 5-inch display and the Galaxy S4 Mini has a 4.3-inch display. Similarly, the HTC One includes a 4.7-inch display and speculations suggest that the upcoming HTC One Mini will have a 4.3-inch display.
Leaked specifications of the Honami suggest that the handset will get a 5-inch display, while the purported Honami Mini will reportedly have a display between 4 to 4.3 inches.
"Our closest sources tell us that Sony is indeed working on more than just Honami, which is to be released in the next couple of months," claims an exclusive report from VR-Zone. "The latest word is that the Japanese company is also working on a 'compact' version of Honami, to go head-on with the Apple iPhone."
Sony has already sent out press invites for an event scheduled for Sept. 4 where the Honami is expected to make its first official appearance. This will be near the time when Apple is supposed to launch the much-awaited iPhone 5S. Apple launched the iPhone 5 in Sept. 2012 and for the first time, the iPhone saw a bump in terms of screen size, jumping from 3.5 inches to 4 inches.
However, many smartphone enthusiasts would now prefer a top-end smartphone to have a bigger display. Rumors suggest that the iPhone 5S will have updated hardware specifications but the screen size of the upcoming iPhone will remain the same. If Sony launches the Honami Mini with top-notch hardware specifications, including the latest Snapdragon 800 processor, the next-gen iPhone will find another worthy rival to compete with.
Sony is yet to officially announce the Honami and the Honami Mini. Usually, companies launch the original device first and then reveal the compact version of the handset. As such, we will have to wait for the Honami to launch at the IFA Berlin and then hold on until the company announces the mini version of the smartphone.
