'CODA'
"CODA" winning the 94th Best Picture in the Academy Awards does not just bring forth victory to the film, to Apple, and the actors, this Apple original film is also a historic victory for Deaf culture and Deaf actors, elevating them to a prominent position in the film industry.
"CODA" is a film written and directed by Sian Heder, and it is based on the 2014 French film La Famille Bélier (The Bélier Family). "CODA" is a film about a young woman named Ruby who is the only hearing member of her Deaf family.
Ruby Rossi is the focus of the English-language remake which follows her struggles to balance family obligations with her passion for music.
Ruby serves as an interpreter for her parents while working for her family's struggling fishing boat business. She communicates with her parents through sign language.
Ruby finds herself torn between her responsibilities to her family and her desire to pursue her musical ambitions after joining her high school's choir club.
According to NPR, Sian Heder, Director of "CODA" stated, "CODA does have a double meaning in the title because it's Children of Deaf Adults, but it's also the end of a piece of music, it's a story about the end of childhood.''

Apple's 'CODA' Best Supporting Actor
Apple's original film "CODA" also won its deaf actor Troy Kotsur, as the Academy Awards Best Supporting Actor. The Best Supporting Award going to Troy Kotsur makes him the first Deaf actor to win an acting award in the Oscars.
During the awarding, last year's Best Supporting Actress winner, Youn Yuh-jung, used American Sign Language (ASL) to announce that the Deaf actor Troy Kotsur won for Best Supporting Actor.
As described by Bustle, Kotsur won for his role in "CODA" playing a fisherman who relies on his hearing daughter for his business and must come to terms with the fact that her dreams for life are much bigger than their small town.
