Among Us servers in North America and Europe are back online following five days of inactivity due to a Distributed Denial-of-Service attack (DDoS) on March 25.
According to a tweet from game developer Innersloth, the previously mentioned servers are now stable compared to their situation on March 28.
The game developer also mentioned that it would send an update if anything changes, appropriately adding that people should "now get back to [their] tasks." However, people are still having trouble getting into the game despite the servers being stable.
Among Us Server Attack History
On March 25, Among Us players noticed that they couldn't connect and play the game at all. It turned out that the sneak-and-stab simulator's North American and European servers were down due to a DDoS attack from an unknown entity, which caused Innersloth to take these servers down to solve the problem. Gaming on Phone mentioned in their article that someone with malicious intent deliberately targeted the game's servers.
Since then, players connected to these servers would have to play the game on the unaffected Asian server to play the game or wait for Innersloth to solve the attack.
On March 28, Innersloth tweeted an update saying that the affected servers were working. However, they are only partially online due to instabilities as they may turn on and off without warning.
According to Kotaku, the instability was the reason why players from the affected servers successfully got into a lobby, only to be booted out shortly after. The next day, Innersloth tweeted that the game's affected servers look "stable and good," adding that they would send an update if anything changed.
Still Not Fixed?
However, not everyone from the affected servers can play the game despite Innersloth fixing the servers. Among Us players went to Innersloth's Twitter to inform them of the problem.
Twitter user @ashlea__marie mentioned that they deleted and re-installed the game, only to be met with a message saying they disconnected from the server due to a mono-io-layer error. Their previous attempt to get into the game failed because the game's reliable packet 1 was not "ack'd" after nine resends.
Another Twitter user, @cquisay59, said that they weren't able to get into the game as the servers were overloaded, per the game's message to them. User @strawberryit0 also can't get into the game due to the game informing them that "DTLS negotiation failed after 35 resends."
Although Innersloth has yet to make an official tweet on the matter, it has individually reached out to Among Us players on Twitter, saying that they would look into the problems shown to them.
The problems previously mentioned could have been fixed by now or an isolated problem; iTechPost attempted and successfully got into a game lobby upon the writing of this article.
One Sussy Spartan?
In other news, Innersloth recently tweeted a picture of an Among Us crewmate wearing the iconic armor of a Spartan soldier from the Halo franchise.
Xbox noticed the tweet, appropriately commenting "Master Chief, you mind telling us what you're doing on this ship?" on Innersloth's tweet.
Innersloth's tweet could mean that a player skin resembling Halo's Spartans could be coming to the game.
