Max Payne Remakes Details

According to Remedy Entertainment's announcement, the development agreement stated that it would be developing the two games' remakes as a single bundled title for the PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Gamers familiar with the Control and CrossFireX video games will find many similarities with the oncoming remakes; Remedy would be using the Northlight game engine to develop them, per IGN.

Fans will be excited to know that the remakes will not be just about making the games' graphics better but also the addition of missions, new moves, animations and many more. It will basically be a full-blown remake of the game providing a new gaming experience.

Remedy first used the Northlight game engine to develop the 2016 video game Quantum Break, per the Control Fandom.

Meanwhile, Rockstar Games would be providing the funding necessary for the remakes' development. Remedy said the development budget is big enough to be compared to a typical AAA-game production from Remedy.

Additionally, Remedy will have a "royalty opportunity" after Rockstar Games regains the cost of developing and marketing the resulting game from the agreement, alongside costs for its distribution and publication.

Remedy Entertainment CEO Tero Virtala said that the company is excited to be working with its partners at Rockstar Games again to bring the original Max Payne games back to players in new ways.

"Max Payne has always held a special place in the hearts of everyone at Remedy, and we know the millions of fans worldwide feel the same," Virtala said.

Since the game is currently in the concept development stage, Remedy did not mention a target release date for the game along with the exclusion of previous-gen consoles like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Remedy and Rockstar's History under Max Payne

Remedy and Rockstar previously worked together as partners on the first two Max Payne games during the PlayStation 2 (PS2) era, per Remedy's announcement. Back then, the two companies developed and published Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne for the PS2, the original Xbox, and the PC, with Remedy developing the game and Rockstar publishing it.

Remedy and Rockstar also partnered to bring the first Max Payne game to mobile devices, with the release of Max Payne Mobile for iOS and Android devices.

Sam Houser, Rockstar Games' founder, mentioned that the company was thrilled when Remedy approached it about remaking the original Max Payne games.

"We are massive fans of the work the Remedy team has created over the years, and we can't wait to play these new versions," Houser said.

The Max Payne games are third-person shooter games that combine traditional crime noir tropes and comic book storytelling to create "a grim tale" f a detective who turned into a vigilante after his life spirals uncontrollably after his underworld connections lead to his family's murder, per Kotaku and Digital Trends.
