YouTube Shorts Videos Now Accessible Everywhere With a New Splicing Feature to Boot

YouTube Shorts is expanding its video limit and opening its library of billions of videos for reuse.

YouTube Shorts was launched in the United States last year on March 18. Today, its parent company, Google, announced two additional features that are rolling out for everyone. Google states that they are releasing new ways to not only create but also watch short films.

YouTube Shorts

YouTube Shorts creators can now remix or add another piece of content, a 1-5 second segment from any eligible YouTube video or short, in the creation of new original Shorts content.

This new creation tool is a way of serving back to the platform's patrons — both creators and users. The tool was shaped by user feedback and demand.

According to Google, to use the feature, creators need to tap on "Create" and select "Cut" from the remix options. After that, creators will be able to choose their desired content to add and then sample a segment of the video to use in their content. From a YouTube video or a YouTube short, creators can click the 3-dot menu, select "Cut," and choose the desired segment.

The tech giant also adds, "Any time a short is created from your own channel's content, it will be attributed back to your original video with a link in the Shorts player."

Linking back to your original video provides a great opportunity for previously untapped audiences to discover and engage with your content in a new way.

The Verge reports that this new tool in YouTube Shorts now makes it possible to sample videos from a large library of videos available for remixing. However, creators can choose to exclude their content from being remixed, and videos with a copyright claim or that are set to private cannot be sampled.

YouTube Shorts will begin appearing on the web and on YouTube's mobile apps for Android and iOS tablets in the coming weeks, while it will be released on Android later this year.

YouTube Shorts Will Be Available to More Devices

YouTube Shorts have only been available on smartphones up to this point in time. As a result of the general lack of tablet support, many foldable devices, such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series, were unable to access Shorts.

However, as part of the recent announcement, Google is finally releasing YouTube Shorts on more devices. The Shorts tab will be visible across the web and tablets really soon. Known for its long-form videos, YouTube is the largest video content repository on the internet and the most visited site on the internet.

Due to the popularity and effectiveness of TikTok, shorter videos have become increasingly popular, with Instagram launching Reels and YouTube launching Shorts in response.

A similar feature is being added to YouTube Shorts today, which will allow users to use small sections of videos. Despite the fact that the company is still adding new features to its short-form video platform, it is beginning to take advantage of its greatest asset-the massive catalog of videos already available on the site.

As previously reported by Android Central, YouTube Shorts introduced short-form videos to fans of traditional YouTube videos in March 2021 and has continued to introduce new features such as the ability to hardwire short audio clips from other YouTube videos into a single video.
