Taking a Social Media Detox? Here’s How To Temporarily Delete Your Twitter Account and Wipe Out Old Cringey Tweets

Twitter is a platform that allows us to communicate with numerous people around the world. The social media platform has changed the way we express and communicate. It is a perfect place to listen to, learn from, and immerse yourself in a group of people with so much diversity.

However, it is undeniably addictive.

To some, it can also be an outlet of heavy energy due to the unconscious cyberbullying that easily happens.

Here is a way to combat that addiction by temporarily deleting your Twitter account!

How To Delete Your Twitter Account

When temporarily deactivating your account, keep in mind that you can still archive some of your favorite tweets. Learn how to delete your Twitter account from your phone in the following steps:

  1. Sign into your Twitter account and select your profile icon in the top left corner of the screen.
  2. Scroll down to the bottom of the side menu and select Settings and Privacy.
  3. Select Your Account > Deactivate Your Account from the drop-down menu.
  4. Select your desired reactivation period. Choices vary from 30 days to 12 months.
  5. Select Deactivate from the drop-down menu.
  6. You'll be prompted to enter your password, which you should confirm by tapping the Deactivate button.

When using your personal computer, you can follow these steps to deactivate your Twitter account.

  1. Select More from the left-hand menu, followed by Settings and Privacy.
  2. On the left side of the menu, click More, then choose Settings and Privacy.
  3. To deactivate your account, go to the "Your Account" section and click "Deactivate your account."
  4. Select one of the two reactivation periods available: 30 days or twelve months.
  5. Select the "Deactivate" button.
  6. After that, you'll be prompted to enter your password, after which you'll be asked to confirm that you want to proceed by clicking "Deactivate account."

If you feel like returning to Twitter earlier, you will always have the option to change your mind and reactivate your account before the time period expires. However, if you fail to do so, your account on the social media platform will be permanently deleted after the reactivation period has expired.

How To Delete Old Tweets

There might have been a point in our lives where we tweeted every single thing about what was happening to us, and scrolling back through it gives us that cringe feeling. Here's how to wipe out old tweets from your account using a free tool called TweetEraser.

As per CNET, TweetEraser is a web application that is designed to assist you in cleaning up your Twitter timeline. With the app, you can filter tweets and delete them in bulk. Here's how you can do it:

  1. Go to tweeteraser.com and sign up.
  2. A web page of various plans will be displayed. If you opt for the free tier, all you have to do is click it and sign in with Twitter.
  3. Enter your Twitter login information and click "Authorize App" to authorize the application.
  4. Type in the authentication code that was sent to your phone and click "Log In" to continue.
  5. Once more, click Authorize App to confirm.
  6. In order to facilitate communication, TweetEraser will ask its users for their email addresses. However, users are not required to provide them in order to continue using the service.
  7. To see a graph of your Twitter activity, click Get Latest Tweets on the menu bar.

From there, TweetEraser will tell you the date and time you posted, how many retweets and likes you received, and whether or not you included a photo in your tweet. Simply select the appropriate checkbox to delete either a single record or the entire page of records.

In TweetEraser's free tier, the company claims that it does not charge recurring fees, does not display timeline spam, allows for a maximum Twitter data import of 3,200 tweets, and has limited search filters.
