Motorola and Verizon officially unveiled the new DROID family of smartphones. The DROID ULTRA, DROID MAXX, and DROID MINI are available for pre-order now and will be released in August.
It seems that Google's Motorola is gearing up for a busy August. The company will unveil its highly anticipated Moto X on August 1 and will ship its just-announced Verizon DROID family towards the end of August. Verizon and Motorola officially announced the DROID ULTRA, DROID MAXX, and DROID MINI at a press event in New York City.
The smartphones include some of the innovative features that the Moto X will boast, such as voice control without having to touch the device, notifications that will appear on the display with a blinking icon of the app that is pushing the notification, and a camera that can be launched by a simple twist of one's wrist, even while the smartphone is off .
The DROID ULTRA is the thinnest 4G LTE smartphone available, measuring just 7.18mm. It features a 5-inch HD display, runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, is powered by a 1.7GHz dual-core processor with quad-core graphics and 2GB of RAM, includes 16GB of internal storage, a 10-megapixel rear camera with 1080p HD recording, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, 4G LTE radio, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and a 2,130 mAh battery that will offer up to 28 hours of usage. The DROID ULTRA will cost $199 when signing a new 2-year contract and will be available in choice of black or red.
The DROID MAXX, meanwhile, includes a large 3,500 mAh battery that will give the smartphone up to 48 hours of usage. The handset features a 5-inch HD display, runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, is powered by a 1.7GHz dual-core processor with quad-core graphics, has 2GB of RAM, includes 32GB of internal storage, a 10-megapixel rear camera with 1080p HD recording, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, 4G LTE radio, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and wireless charging capabilities out of the box. The DROID MAXX will cost $299.99 when signing a new 2-year contract with Verizon.
The DROID MINI includes all of the features found on the other two new DROIDs, but brings them to a smartphone with a compact design. The handset features a 4.3-inch HD display, runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, is powered by a 1.7GHz dual-core processor with quad-core graphics, 2GB of RAM, includes 16GB of internal storage, a 10-megapixel rear camera with 1080p HD recording, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, 4G LTE radio, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and a 2.130 mAh with up to 28 hours of usage. The DROID MINI will cost $99.99 when signing a new 2-year contract.
All three smartphones are now available for pre-order. The DROID ULTRA and DROID MAXX will ship by August 20 and the DROID MINI will ship by August 29.
