The ability to communicate with your teammates in a game where coordination is crucial is a must-have. Although in-game chat does the trick in some cases, voice chat is a whole lot better and is always the most preferred.
That's why this next piece of information will no doubt excite Rocket League players.
Rocket League developer Psyonix has recently revealed that voice chat is back in the game and is better than ever following the implementation of a new system behind the scenes.
Psyonix previously removed voice chat from the game in update 2.04 in September 2021 due to the feature causing players to experience issues during gameplay.
Rocket League Voice Chat Returns!
According to Psyonix's announcement on Rocket League's official website, players logging into the game will notice that voice chat is enabled by default, requiring only a headset plugged into the computer to use the feature.
Once a headset is plugged in, players can either join, switch, or leave channels from the game's main menu or the pause menu during a match.
The new voice chat now offers various options for players to customize their voice chat in the settings menu: Party Chat lets you talk with your friends within a Party Voice Channel when they create or join a party. This option also allows you to communicate in and out of a match within that group as the connection persists between games.
Team Chat, meanwhile, allows you to communicate with your team during a match even if you are not a part of a Party Voice Channel. However, this connection only lasts until the match has ended but will return when you join another.
If you're playing Rocket League on PC, you'll be able to change audio input and output sources anytime.
Meanwhile, players will be able to choose between push-to-talk (PTT) and open mic options depending on their preferences. If you want to use PTT settings, you can enable that option in the Settings menu. However, you'll need to choose what key to bind the PTT button to use it.
Of course, you can individually mute anyone using the mute button in their voice channel. To mute someone in-game, select their name in the Voice Chat tab and choose "Mute."
A green speaker icon will appear when you or another player is actively speaking in the Voice Chat tab in-game. However, a speaker with an X beside it indicates that you or another player has been muted.
Why Was Voice Chat Originally Removed?
According to Player. One's report on the topic, Psyonix and its co-developer for Rocket League, Panic Button Games, decided to remove the feature in September 2021 due to it caussing mid-match lag and service interruptions.
Both developers agreed that the voice chat system at that time was not up to par with modern standards, saying that the feature in its state did not work well on Rocket League.
Players noticed that the game no longer had voice chat on September 15, 2021, as evidenced in the Reddit forum, r/RocketLeague.
