Is it really possible to buy an iPhone using Bitcoin? Well, The Verge reported it might happen.
Well, It Is Just a Speculation. At Least for Now.
During an analyst event in Las Vegas on May 10, CEO of Dish-owned Boost Mobile Stephen Stokols hinted the company's vision for the country's fourth wireless carrier, which might include a future in which you can pay for a new iPhone with Bitcoin.
It should be noted that while Stokos unveiled the branding for "Boost Infinite," a new postpaid wireless plan that will launch this fall, he also said: "Imagine if you could leverage decentralized financing to get the latest iconic devices. Imagine if there was a wireless carrier that actually paid you back."
Allison Johnson of The Verge opined that "'leveraging decentralized financing' reads an awful lot like 'paying for something with cryptocurrency,' and we have to assume that iPhones fall under the category of 'the latest iconic devices.'"
Right now, it is just a speculation, and there is no further information available to support The Verge's report.
Plans for the 'Boost Infinite' Branding
According to Johnson, Stokols seemed to imply that under the "Boost Infinite" moniker, Dish aims to take on the big three wireless carriers, adding that the company intends to increase the demand for prepaid markets to the mass market.
Dish's 5G Network Is Now Operational in Las Vegas
As reported by Screen Rant, Dish's 5G network has launched in Las Vegas, with more than 120 cities set to follow in the coming weeks.
Dish had planned to deploy its 5G network in 2020, but had to delay it until the first quarter of 2021. The company also missed that date, but stated it will deploy its services in Q3 of 2021. During the company's Q2 2021 earnings call, the first beta trial was announced.
With the introduction of its 5G network, Dish has joined Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile as the fourth wireless carrier in the U.S. Following an agreement with the FCC to establish Dish as the new player in the sector, the original fourth carrier, Sprint, merged with T-Mobile in 2020.
T-Mobile sold its prepaid brand Boost to Dish Network as part of the deal, allowing the DTH provider to offer cellular service on T-Mobile's network as an MVNO for a limited time.
What Is 'Project Genesis'?
How To Geek reported that Dish finally has a functional network in Las Vegas, Nevada despite its rollout has been continuously delayed.
"Project Genesis" is the name that the company has chosen for the network, and anyone in the Las Vegas area can order a SIM card from genesis5g.com.
Before you dismiss the "truly unlimited Smart 5G data, talk, and text for $30/month with nationwide coverage" claim for a network that is currently only available in one city, keep in mind that Dish is allowed to roam on T- Mobile's network for the next few years while it develops its own infrastructure.
