Nokia Lumia 729 Windows Phone 8 smartphone may soon head to Verizon

Nokia has already launched a few Windows Phone 8 (WP8)-powered handsets this year and now the company may soon launch the yet-to-be-announced Lumia 729, which will be heading for U.S. carrier Verizon.

The Finnish handset maker is getting very aggressive with the launch of new handsets this year. The company has already launched some entry- to mid-level smartphones, including the Lumia 520, Lumia 620 and the Lumia 720 within a very short period of time. Now rumors suggest that Lumia 729, which is a Verizon version of the Lumia 720, will hit the shelves.

A recent leaked render of the Lumia 729 has emerged online but it remains to be seen just how swiftly Verizon will launch the handset.

"It seems Nokia is continuing their low-end assault on the US market, with the latest handset to be revealed being a Verizon version of the Nokia Lumia 720, the Nokia Lumia 729," reports WMPowerUser.

Nokia has also launched an array of top-end WP8 handsets in the smartphone arena. In May this year, the Lumia 925 launched on T-Mobile, the Lumia 928 launched on Verizon and recently the much-anticipated 41-megapixel Lumia 1020 launched exclusively on AT&T.

Previously, the Lumia 822, which is a Verizon version of the Lumia 820, was also amongst the first WP8 handsets launched in the U.S.

Currently, Verizon has only four WP8 smartphones in its handset portfolio, which includes the Nokia Lumia 928, Nokia Lumia 822, HTC 8X and the Samsung ATIV Odyssey. Customers will be happy enough to get their hands on a new WP8 device on the carrier.

The Lumia 729 should be placed below the Lumia 928 and the Lumia 822. The launch of Lumia 729 may come as a response to the recently launched Lumia 520 on AT&T.

We don't know what the price of the handset will be on Verizon or the expected launch date of the handset on the carrier. However, it seems that WP8 handsets are now invading the smartphone space with the launch of more and more devices. The leaks suggest an imminent launch, but the Nokia Lumia 729 is yet to become official.
