Google is now rolling out the feature to allow users to cut, copy, and paste files in Google Drive using keyboard shortcuts. Say goodbye to the tiring task of dragging and dropping files in Google Drive.
Now, we can enjoy the ease and convenience of using these keyboard shortcuts.
Google Drive's Cut, Copy, and Paste Update
The command keys cut, copy, and paste has always been doable in Google. These commands are available in the Google search engine, Docs, Presentation, Spreadsheet, and Drawing. However, the Google Drive copy folder requires users to just create, move, and drag and drop files.
Well, with the newly released update, it will definitely change now.
Google's recent announcement will soon support keyboard shortcuts that will give users the ability to cut, copy, and paste files in Google Drive, as reported by The Verge.
According to Google, common keyboard shortcuts that are widely used, such as Ctrl + C (or ⌘ + C on Mac), Ctrl + X, and Ctrl + V to copy, cut, and paste can now be used in managing users' Google Drive files, as long as users are using the Google Chrome browser.
This new update is great news as it will allow users to save time as they can now freely, with ease, copy one or more files and move them to new locations in Drive, as well as across multiple tabs, with fewer clicks.
This will empower users to assist them in organizing their files more easily by organizing them in multiple locations without necessarily creating duplicate files through the use of Ctrl + C and Ctrl + Shift + V.
Another great feature that comes with the update is that when users copy a file, not only will the file itself be copied, but a link to the file and the file's title will also be captured. This enables users to paste copied files into documents or emails easily.
Furthermore, users now have an easier way to view multiple files at once or use different tabs to organize files between two other folder locations by opening files or folders in a new tab by pressing Ctrl+Enter.
Lastly, it is worth noting that these updated shortcut keys in Google Drive will only take effect when using the Google Chrome Browser.
This feature rollout in the release domain will start on May 26 and reach full implementation for every user by June 4, 2022.
Google Keyboard Shortcut
Google Drive users are excited to experience the ease of these new features. So with that, here are a few notes to remember as users organize and manage their files.
Users should be reminded to check their account's storage capacity. Sometimes, numerous users can get carried away, uploading multiple files, and creating many copies, storing them all in different folders within Google Drive.
Remember, the storage capacity of a user is distributed among Gmail, Google Photos, and Google Drive. It will no longer be possible for a user to send or receive emails once their account has reached its maximum storage capacity. For users who want to know how much space they have left, Google recommends users visit this link, google.com/settings/storage.
