Sad news for fans of actor Matthew Mercer.
The internet went kind of crazy yesterday following the reveal of Resident Evil 4 Remake but a sad news hit the fans as Matthew Mercer will not be returning as Leon Kennedy in the game.
Over the last few years, Capcom has been remaking classic Resident Evil games with reimagined stories, modern gameplay, and really amazing graphics, but the one that people have been demanding a remake of the most is Resident Evil 4.
Despite being on countless platforms and although it is easily accessible, people still want to see Capcom's reimagining of the classic survival horror game. Finally, it's happening very soon.
'Resident Evil 4 Remake' Will be Released Next Spring
Capcom kicked off the PlayStation State of Play by confirming it would be releasing Resident Evil 4 Remakenext spring.
Immediately, fans became excited about the potential of this project. They immediately reached out to Matthew Mercer, the one who's playing Leon Kennedy, to see if he would reprise his role.
However, sadly, Mercer stated he's not involved in the project. But he said that he hopes whoever is playing the iconic character will make everyone proud.
According to Comicbook, Mercer didn't play Leon in the original Resident Evil 4, that was Paul Mercier, but it's unclear if he will be playing the character.
In Resident Evil 6 and some animated films, Matthew Mercer played Leon. It's likely Nick Apostolides, the voice of Leon in Resident Evil 2 Remake and Netflix's "Resident Evil Infinite Darkness," will take on the role for Resident Evil 4 Remake, as per Comicbook.
However, Apostolides has yet to confirm or deny whether he will reprise his role.
Meanwhile, Resident Evil fans found Leon's jacket in the Resident Evil 4 Remake trailer in real life. What will likely become a hot item for Resident Evil fans is for sale for nearly $1,500.
Most probably, fans will continue to pick apart the new trailer and discover other details that will give us all clue on how different this remake will be.
Resident Evil 4 Remake will be released on March 23rd, 2023 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.

Who is Leon Kennedy?
Leon Scott Kennedy is one of two main protagonists in Resident Evil 2. He is the central hero featured in Resident Evil 4, and one of several protagonists in Resident Evil 6.
Initially, Leon is a rookie cop employed by the Raccoon City Police Department amidst the T-Virus outbreak that would consume the city.
In subsequent appearances, he is a well-trained, highly-skilled government agent specializing in the containment and elimination of bio-organic weapons.
Showcased as a playable character in the non-canonical Game Boy Color title Resident Evil: Gaiden, he also stands alongside fellow Raccoon City survivor Claire Redfield in the feature-length CG film "Resident Evil: Degeneration."
The story of his survival of the Raccoon City incident is recounted in Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles.
Leon is also the protagonist of Capcom's second CG film outing in "Resident Evil: Damnation."
Paul Haddad voiced him in Resident Evil 2, while Paul Mercier voiced him in all of his following appearances up until Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, where he was voiced by Christian Lanz.
Matthew Mercer took the role for the movie "Resident Evil: Damnation" and "Resident Evil 6."
