The Moto X has a unique feature called Active Display to handle notifications. A new app brings this exclusive feature to other smartphones with AMOLED displays and running Android 4.3.
Motorola has added some useful features to its latest flagship smartphone, the Moto X. Besides offering users the ability to customize the handset, the company has also created some useful software enhancements. One of those features is called the Active Display smart notification system. When a new notification comes in, an image of the app's icon blinks on the display to show which application is sending the notification, instead of the traditional blinking LED most smartphones use. Users can tap the icon to get a preview and decide if they would like to respond immediately or at a later time.
A new application called ActiveNotifications brings this feature to smartphones running Android 4.3 and sporting an AMOLED display so the app doesn't draw too much battery life. The Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition, Galaxy S4 with Android 4.3 custom ROMs, and Galaxy Nexus with 4.3 ROMs also work. I can confirm it works perfectly on my Verizon Galaxy Nexus 4G LTE running an Android 4.3 ROM.
ActiveNotifications allows you to receive important notifications when your screen is off. When you miss a call or receive a new email/SMS, the display will discreetly light up to let you know, without needing to unlock the device. Most phones only have a pulsing notification LED that doesn't actually tell you anything about the incoming notification - with ActiveNotifications you can immediately decide if something is important enough to act.
The app's features include:
* Notifications don't light up when your phone is in your pocket, purse, or face down to avoid accidental unlocks
* Select which app-notifications you'd like to receive via ActiveNotifications
* "Sleep at night": Don't show notifications at night (Premium feature)
* "More privacy": Hide additional notification details (e.g. SMS text, sender) (Premium feature)
* Automatically switch off screen when dismissing notifications (Premium feature).
You can download ActiveNotifications from the Google Play Store for free and users can unlock premium features from the app for $0.99.
