YouTube TV's 5.1 surround sound support rolls out to Android TV, Google TV, and Roku streaming devices, thanks to its latest update.
On top of that, YouTube already supports 5.1 audio on Chromecast streaming dongles, as well as the wide range of Samsung, LG, and Vizio smart TVs, as per a news story by 9to5Google.
YouTube TV's 5.1 Surround Sound Update
The news outlet notes that Google announced early this month that YouTube TV is finally getting its much-awaited 5.1 surround sound support to more devices.
The 5.1 audio support for YouTube is somewhat overdue already. Nevertheless, it is still something Android TV and Google TV viewers would appreciate.
So, after waiting for some time, Google has lived up to its promise earlier this June to allow YouTube TV users to watch their favorite movies and shows in the immersive 5.1 audio experience.
According to a recent report by Gizmodo, YouTube TV disclosed on its official Twitter account last week or on June 8, 2022, that 5.1 audio is coming not only to Android TV and Google TV but Roku devices as well.
Google is also on track with the much-anticipated arrival of surround sound on YouTube TV.
The search engine tech giant went on to publish a guide on its support page, detailing how its users could enjoy 5.1 audio once it rolled out.
How to Enjoy YouTube TV Surround Sound
First, YouTube TV users need to update the app to version 1.20 to get their hands on its surround sound support.
9to5Google reports that the new update is currently rolling out to YouTube TV users on Android TV and Google TV. So, the new functionality should automatically reach your smart TV not for long.
The Google support page says users could get the 5.1 audio "as long as your device and set-up meet the requirements."
On top of that, the video you are watching needs to support 5.1 surround sound as well.
Some reports that the 5.1 audio is now available on shows like Superman & Lois on The CW, making the action-filled DC hero series more immersive than ever.
But sports fans viewing ESPN, unfortunately, miss the 5.1 surround sound experience.
The app of the sports platform has yet to bring support for that kind of audio. So, while YouTube TV already allows surround sound on its app on Android TV and Google TV, it still depends on the video its users are watching.
