Moto X will launch on all carriers on Aug. 23, MotoMaker exclusive to AT&T until November

The Moto X wait may be almost over, as the smartphone will reportedly hit all four major carriers on Aug. 23, with AT&T holding the exclusive to MotoMaker until November.

Recently, Motorola launched the long-awaited Moto X smartphone and now customers are waiting for individual carriers to confirm their release date. A new report now suggests that all four major U.S. carriers will start retailing the handset on Aug. 23. However, AT&T will share the MotoMaker customization tool in November this year.

Previous rumors indicated that Verizon will release the Moto X on Aug. 23, but this is the first time speculations suggest that all four carriers will release the handset on the same date.

"The phone will be available on wireless carrier shelves August 23, according to people familiar with the situation. All four of the major carriers -- AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon -- will carry the phone at that time," reports Ad Age."However, the customizable colors will be exclusive to AT&T at first. The other three carriers will carry Moto Xs in stock black and white until early November. At that point, the three other carriers will allow customers to choose from all the color options."

Previous reports also suggest that US Cellular will launch the Moto X on Aug. 29, which is just a week after the release date of the top four carriers.

The customizable feature of the Moto X makes the handset one of the most-anticipated Android smartphones of this year. Customers will be able to personalize their smartphone by choosing from 22 phone backs (four of which are made of actual wood), seven accent colors, a white or black face plate, a white or black wall charger and 16 or 32GB of memory.

Customers can also engrave a personalized 25-character message on the back of the phone.

The Moto X definitely faces stiff competition from other top-end smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S4, HTC One, the recently launched Sony Xperia Z Ultra and the upcoming iPhone 5S. However, the new Motorola flagship seems to have what it takes to compete with any other top-end smartphone in its category.

Interested buyers on a carrier other than AT&T will have to wait a bit longer to enjoy MotoMaker, but at least they can get their hands on the normal version of the smartphone starting on Aug. 23.
