Rumors pertaining to a September launch for the next-gen iPhone from Apple have been creating a stir for sometime, but now it seems we finally have a specific date to look forward to.
According to a new report, Apple will take the wraps off the iPhone 5S on Sept. 10 at a special event. This information is courtesy of AllThingsD who have learnt the details of the next iPhone's debut date from reliable sources.
"Apple is expected to unveil its next iPhone at a special event on Sept. 10, sources told AllThingsD. The launch comes at an important time for Apple, which continues to make a lot of money from the iPhone but has seen its global market share dip amid a growing wave of lower-cost Android devices as well as an intense battle with archrival Samsung," reports the site.
Apple launched the iPhone 5 on Sept. 12 in 2012 and, therefore, the Sept. 10 date seems plausible. Rumors have been rife that Apple will officially announce the next-gen iPhone 5S and iPad 5 in September and Tim Cook's assertion that no new products will launch before fall also fits in well with the September timeframe.
Moreover, Samsung is also expected to unveil its much-awaited Galaxy Note 3 phablet on Sept. 4 at its Unpacked event and Apple would be looking to take on its archrival yet again, especially amidst concerns of dipping global market shares.
Rumors and leaks have hinted that the iPhone 5S will house a faster processor, likely the A7. It is also expected to tout iOS7 and feature a better camera to compete with the 13-megapixel primary camera of the Galaxy S4. Apple is also rumored to be deploying a fingerprint sensor to enhance the security capabilities of the smartphone.
Rumors have also suggested that Apple has a cheaper iPhone in the works, but it is not known if the company will launch the alleged lower-cost smartphone at the Sept. 10 event. The new version of Mac OS X, Mavericks, is not expected to debut at the event.
"Apple is also expected to formally launch the next version of Mac OS X, known as Mavericks, in the coming weeks, though that is not expected at the Sept. 10 event. An Apple representative declined to comment on the timing of any upcoming events," notes AllThingsD.
With Apple representatives choosing to stay mum on the Sept. 10 launch, we will have to wait and see if the iPhone 5S indeed makes its debut on the said date and launches a few days later like its predecessor, the iPhone 5.
