Windows 10 KB5014666 Update: Bug Fixes, New Printer Features, and More

Microsoft is releasing the Windows 10 KB5014666 update with security improvements, app fixes, and some new features.

This latest cumulative update for Windows 10 will be for Windows 10 21H2, Windows 10 21H1, and Windows 10 20H2.

As iTechPost previously reported, this update comes with an enablement package that, once installed, makes it possible for users to "turn on" Windows 10 22H2 in the most recent build of Windows 10 (KB5014666) that is currently available.

With the assistance of an enablement package, the features that are already included in Windows 10 21H1 can be activated.

This package also upgrades the version of Windows and the build number of the operating system.

Windows 10 KB5014666 Update

The Windows 10 KB5014666 cumulative update preview is included in Microsoft's monthly "C" update for July 2022.

Windows 10 users can install this update on their computers by going to the Settings menu, selecting the Windows Update option, and then manually running the 'Check for Updates' function.

Users will be asked if they want to install it when they click on the link that says "Download and install."

Users running Windows 10 have the option to manually access the Microsoft Update Catalog and download and install the KB5014666 preview update there.

This update gives administrators the opportunity to test fixes that will be released on Patch Tuesday in July 2022.

The "C" preview updates, in contrast to the Patch Tuesday updates, are completely voluntary and do not include any new security patches.

New Features by KB5014666

Despite Microsoft's focus on its newest operating system, Windows 11, this update still includes a slew of features.

Microsoft is introducing a plethora of new print and scan features, one of which is support for the Internet Print Protocol (IPP) on USB printers. Other new features include support for wireless printing.

According to BleepingComputer, "The Internet Print Protocol allows you to print and manage documents on a Windows print server directly over HTTP."

The report added, "While Microsoft has supported IPP in network printers, with this update, Microsoft is also supporting IPP over USB."

  • This update also fixes the problem that prevented the Pashto language from being included in the list of languages.
  • This resolves an issue that occurs in the portion of the touchpad that is activated by a right click (the right-click zone).
  • This update fixes a known issue that could prevent you from using the Wi-Fi hotspot feature on a user's device.
  • Fixes a problem with the Cloud Clipboard service that hinders syncing between machines after a period of inactivity.
  • According to Windows, there is also a new feature that adds the public File System Control (FSCTL) code FSCTL LMR QUERY INFO to the Server Message Block (SMB) redirector (RDR).

Windows 10 Update

In Windows support for KB5014666, Microsoft also made an important note about the next iteration of updates for the operating system of Windows 10.

The company mentioned that they will continue support for a few systems, such as Windows Server (version 20H2), Windows 10 Enterprise and Education, Windows 10 Enterprise multi-session, Windows 10 IoT Enterprise, and Windows 10 on Surface Hub.

According to Windows, "After May 10, 2022, these devices will no longer receive monthly security and quality updates that contain protection from the latest security threats."

The company encourages users to upgrade to a newer Windows 10 version or to Windows 11 to receive the latest security and quality updates.
