Apple Watch Series 8 could likely detect if its user has a fever once body temperature starts to go beyond the normal range, claims a recent report.
The upcoming smart wearable of the iPhone maker, the Apple Watch Series 8, is expected to see the light of day sometime in the latter half of 2022.
But despite that, leaks and predictions have started to sprout like mushrooms, giving Apple fans a glimpse of what to expect from the next-generation wrist device.
And the latest Apple Watch Series 8 prediction comes from no less than the reliable Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman. This time, he teases us with a new health feature on the upcoming wrist device.
Apple Watch Series 8 to Detect Fever?
As per a news story by The Verge, the Bloomberg journalist claims that the upcoming Apple Watch is likely to detect if its users are running a fever.
But Gurman says that the new features on Apple Watch Series 8 would not provide its users an exact reading on their body temperature.
Instead, the wrist device could only tell its users that there has been a spike in their temperature. From there, the smart wearable would go on to ask users to confirm it through a thermometer or pay a visit to a doctor.
That said, the Series 8 watch is less likely to work like how a good ol' thermometer works -- wherein you get a straightforward reading of your body temperature.
Instead, the new Apple Watch could only alert its users that they have a fever based on the spike in their body temperature.
Apple Watch Series 8 Body Temperature Sensor
Gurman says the fever-detection feature is possible thanks to the additional body temperature sensor on the new Apple Watch.
However, Apple still has to pass a few internal testing before it gets the green light to install the new sensor on its future smartwatch offerings.
If Apple ace the tests, the Bloomberg journalist believes that the additional Apple Watch sensors are "a go" for two upcoming models, according to a news story by Mac Rumors.
The fever-detecting feature is likely coming to the upcoming standard Series 8 and the rumored "rugged model" which serves folks with more active lifestyles like athletes. Meanwhile, the Apple Watch SE is less likely to get the new sensor.
Furthermore, Gurman says that consumers could start seeing the new health-tracking capability for the 2022 release of the next-generation Apple Watch.
The Verge notes in its report that the journalist previously predicted that the new body temperature sensor is coming this January. But he's now saying that it should be out sometime this year.
