HTC One Max render leaked - Real or fake?

Recently a leaked render of the upcoming HTC One Max has surfaced, but the authenticity of the render is circumspect.

Speculations of the HTC One Max have been circling the smartphone space for quite some time now. The popularity of the flagship handset, the HTC One, has left many smartphone enthusiasts looking out for the bigger version of the handset. The Taiwanese company has already launched the compact HTC One Mini and the bigger version may launch sometime soon.

Well-known tipster @evleaks has leaked a picture of a bigger version of the HTC One, which is believed to be the HTC One Max. In the past, @evleaks has been a reliable source for leaked images of upcoming handsets, so it shouldn't come as a surprise if the actual handset looks very similar to the recently leaked render.

However, a CNET report suggests that the leaked render is in fact a fake image of the HTC One Max. The report points to a comment made by a user on Engadget, who is believed to be Jeff Gordon Senior Global Online Communications Manager at HTC.

The competition in the bigger smartphone sector has increased when compared to 2012. Sony has already launched the Xperia Z Ultra, Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Note 3 at its Unpacked event scheduled for Sept. 4 and rumors also indicate that Nokia is also working on a phablet.

The upcoming HTC One Max is expected to face stiff competition from other phablets in its category. HTC will have to get the HTC One Max up to the standards of other phablets, existing as well as upcoming, in order to attract customers.

The new HTC One phablet is expected to pack in top-end features, which include a 5.9-inch full HD display, a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and 2GB of RAM. The handset is also expected to feature an UltraPixel camera as found on the HTC One.

Speculations suggest that the upcoming HTC phablet will have 32GB or 64GB of internal storage, 3,200mAh battery and the handset may come pre-loaded with either Android 4.2 Jelly Bean or Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system with HTC Sense 5.

HTC has not announced its plans to launch the HTC One Max, as such we can only wait before the company officially announces the phablet and reveals full specifications of the device.

Do you think the leaked HTC One Max render is real or fake?
