Final Fantasy 14's 'Close in the Distance' is Recreated by More Than 1,400 Singers

The Final Fantasy series is one of the most memorable video game series ever made. It introduced the gaming community to many memorable characters such as Cloud Strife, Yuna, Lightning, Squall Leonhart, and Noctis Lucis Caelum. It also gave us one of the best soundtracks the gaming industry has to offer, such as "One-Winged Angel," "Liberi Fatali," "Zanarkand," and "Stand Your Ground," per Paste Magazine and The Music.

However, there is one Final Fantasy track iconic enough that it recently caught the attention of many-a video game soundtrack cover artists that they came together to sing it.

1,400 singers recently came together to sing a fan cover one of Final Fantasy XIV's iconic soundtracks arranged by video game cover artists Alex Moukala and Husky by the Geek, per IGN.

The resulting video featuring the cover can be watched on his YouTube channel and official Twitter account.

Final Fantasy XIV Fan Cover Details

Moukala and Husky by the Geek recently made a cover of "Close in the Distance," a track prominently featured in Final Fantasy XIV's "Endwalker" expansion, which was released on December 7, 2021, per the Final Fantasy Fandom.

Moukala mentioned that he and the singers who first joined the fan cover were working on it on June 21, saying that he can't do the cover alone.

"I say 'we' because i figured I can't do this alone, so I asked the help of a few warriors of light to take charge or some parts of the project and I'm glad I did!" Moukala said on Twitter.

At that point in time, he mentioned that the work for the cover was about 75% done.

Moukala is also being assisted by Husky by the Geek, a YouTuber and video game cover artist that does covers with his guitar.

Moukala's cover of "Close in the Distance" was also worked on by many YouTubers and musicians, like Studio Kinktendo, Enochian Tori, and Lollia Rose, among others.

Moukala's cover also got the attention and participation of professional singers, such as Paolo Andrea Di Pietro, J'Nique Nicole, and Amanda Achen, per Moukala's YouTube video description of the cover.

Di Pietro is the singer of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade's "Happy Turtle Jingle," while Nicole sang NieR Automata's "A Beautiful Song, "Weight of the World," and "Memories of Dust."

Achen, meanwhile, sang Final Fantasy XIV's "Flow," "Tomorrow & Tomorrow," and "Hearts Aligned."

Moukala's Reaction To The Support

Moukala can only be described as overwhelmed by the support he received for his cover, which left him to express his gratitude on the two previously mentioned social media platforms.

"I can't stress enough how much of a difference you all made here," Moukala said. "In honor of Soken story, I'll do my best to assure that this video's monetization goes to some good charities."

Moukala even mentioned every one of the 1400 participants by name in the comments section and thanked them for their support and participation in the cover.

He also declared that it's safe to say that Final Fantasy XIV changed so many lives and that the cover would not have been possible without the 1400 participants who helped him make the cover into reality.

Moukala is an avid fan of the Final Fantasy series, with much of his tweets discussing the many games it has under its belt.
