LG just announced its latest flagship smartphone, the LG G2, and the unlocked version of the handset is now available for pre-order.
As Android continues to grow, manufacturers have started to offer exclusive features on their smartphones in order to stand out from rivals in the very crowded Android smartphone space. Motorola is doing this with the Moto X's customization feature. Samsung has added features to the Galaxy S4 that allow users to control different actions with their eyes and the wave of a hand. HTC has focused on design, by using the much-loved unibody anodized aluminum case on the HTC One. LG has brought its own original feature that it hopes will be a hit with consumers.
The LG G2 is an impressive smartphone. It manages to fit a 5.2-inch display into a relatively small case, it's very thin and lacks any buttons on its sides. Instead, LG has placed all of the buttons on the back of the smartphone. The company refers to this feature as the "Rear Key Concept" and it makes a lot of sense. LG claims that it realized that the larger a smartphone gets, the more difficult it gets to access the side buttons on the device. To make it easier to hold and use, LG decided to place the volume and power buttons on the back of the G2, where a user's fingers would naturally be.
Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile will all offer the LG G2 in the coming weeks, according to LG. The unlocked G2, meanwhile, is already available for pre-order from Negri Electronics.
The LG G2 features a 5.2-inch 1080 x 1920 Full HD IPS display with a pixel density of 423 pixels per inch (ppi). It is powered by a 2.26GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. LG has included a 13-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera. The handset's wireless capabilities include a 4G LTE radio, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, and GPS. The G2 comes with 32GB of internal storage and packs in a large 3,000 mAh battery.
Negri Electronics is offering the unlocked LG G2 in both black and white for $619.50 and is listing an estimated availability date of September 27, 2013.
