Instagram is testing Notes, its new Twitter-like feature, allowing users to post text-only updates, sort of similar to "tweets," on their IG Direct inbox.
The giant social media platform is also experimenting with a new option that lets its users show ads on their Instagram profiles.
The Meta-owned social network has been adapting to the ever-changing landscape of user preference these days.
It is now heavily pushing Reels, its TikTok-like feature, to its users, in hopes to get a slice of the popularity of the Chinese video sharing service.
And there was even a time when it introduced its Snapchat-like feature, Stories.
Instagram Notes: New Twitter-like Feature
This time, Instagram is reportedly testing a new Notes feature that allows its users to post purely text updates - but the catch is that there are character limits.
As per a news story by Android Central, the experimental feature only allows its users to go as long as 60 characters. And it is quite hidden in the IG Direct section of its Android and iPhone app.
So if you barely get any direct messages from your friends, this might make you visit your DMs more than before, or not.
The social media consultant, Matt Navarra, says that the new Twitter-like function enables Instagram users to post a 60-character update at the top of their Instagram inbox.
It shows "notes" from the folks you are following, and your posts make it to their inbox without needing to send them a direct message.
According to a recent report by Social Media Today, the new Twitter-like feature that Instagram is testing seemingly attempts to create more engagement within its app.
The news outlet says that the social media giant might have figured out that stuffing little notes in the DMs could increase the interaction of its users.
It is worth noting that Instagram is only testing this new Twitter-like feature.
And as such, it might not even see the light of day in the social media service. But it could also go the other route, wherein it becomes an official function that would roll out to our accounts anytime soon.
Instagram Test Ads on Profile Pages
Besides the new Notes feature, Instagram is also reportedly testing out ads on the profiles of its users.
The prominent leaker, Alessandro Paluzzi, reveals that the social media service is working on new monetization tools as it has ditched its annoying video ads on streams.
A new option on Insta, aptly named "Enable revenue sharing," should let other users "see ads on your profile."
