Apple Explains Removing Games From the Apple Arcade; What Happens Next?

Apple today explained what happens when the company removes titles from its Apple Arcade subscription service.

Apple laid out instructions on how subscribers can find new games, new updates to Apple Arcade games, and upcoming games on the platform.

The tech company has reportedly pulled out numerous games from its subscription services.

After the news spread, the company stated that the subscribers who download a game before it is taken down from Apple Arcade could continue playing it for at least two weeks after.

Apple Arcade Games

Apple might sometimes have games that leave the platform.

Apple announced that users have at least two weeks after a game is removed from the Arcade to play it if they downloaded it before it left the Arcade.

However, players will learn when a game is no longer available to Arcade when it is launched and displays the message "No Longer Available."

According to Apple, when a game is removed from the Arcade, the developer of the game has the option of making the game available on the App Store.

Players will be able to start up where they left off in the Arcade version of the game if the developer makes their game available on the App Store and if they allow users to load their previously saved progress.

However, when downloading the games on the App Store, the game might still be the same, but there is a possibility that some games might deviate from their Arcade version.

For instance, Apple Arcade games are not permitted to include in-app purchases or display advertisements.

However, this could provide a different experience since these restrictions do not apply to games that are available to users of the App Store.

Apple Arcade is a gaming subscription service that costs $5 per month. Players can play over 200 games without having to deal with advertisements or in-app purchases when using Apple Arcade.

Additionally, the platform adds new games and updates existing ones weekly.

Apple Removing Games

Apple recently made a list of the 15 titles that will shortly be removed from the Apple Arcade.

It is not the first time that games have been removed from the Apple Arcade, but this appears to be the first time that Apple has specified which games will be removed.

A new section titled "Leaving Arcade Soon" has been added to the App Store's Arcade tab, and it contains a list of the titles that will be removed from the section in the near future.

Other than the term "soon," there was no other indication as to when exactly the games would be removed from the platform.

According to The Verge, a respectable selection of games can be found in the Apple Arcade catalog.

Notable examples of these games include Hironobu Sakaguchi's Fantasian and the Apple Arcade adaptations of Jetpack Joyride and Tiny Wings.

  • Here are the 15 titles leaving Apple Arcade:
  • Atone: Heart of the Elder Tree
  • BattleSky Brigade: Harpooner
  • Cardpocalypse
  • Dead End Job
  • Don't Bug Me!
  • Dread Nautical
  • EarthNight
  • Explottens
  • Lifeslide
  • Over the Alps
  • Projection: First Light
  • Spelldrifter
  • Spidersaurs
  • Towaga: Among Shadows
  • Various Daylife

According to the information gathered by MacRumors, when Apple Arcade was first released, the company signed three-year contracts with a number of game developers.

Some contracts are reportedly nearing the end of their terms and will not be renewed, which is why some games will be removed from the platform.
