Design renders of Samsung's foldable phones have reportedly surfaced online.
Samsung is conducting their annual event, "Unpacked," this August 10. It has been reported that the Samsung Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 will be unveiled to the public during the live event.
However, leaks of what the foldable phones unofficially look like have been shared online days before their expected reveal.
Samsung's allegedly official renders for the foldable and flip devices that will be launched next month have been leaked by Evan Blass and were published at 91Mobiles.
Samsung Foldables
The Samsung render shows all angles of the Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4, from the sideways and the front and back exteriors. The image that was published also showed the Samsung Z Fold 4 when folded and the Samsung Flip 4 when folded.
Samsung's fourth generation foldable devices are available in numerous colorways. The Z Fold 4 can be bought in gray, beige, and black, while the Z Flip 4 is available in purple, blue, and gold.
Both the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Galaxy Z Flip 4 are iterative improvements on their predecessors. Both devices don't look too different from the last generation, which makes up for the small changes that are obvious in their design.
But this doesn't mean that there won't be any useful changes to this year's foldables, even though there haven't been any major changes to the way they look.
However, this year's foldables could still benefit from valuable enhancements despite the lack of significant design modifications.
As reported by The Verge, there have been rumors that the Samsung Z Flip 4 will have a larger secondary display on its exterior, while the Z Flip 4's folding display may have been updated to result in a less noticeable crease down the center of the screen when unfolded.
Additionally, there have also been rumors that these fourth generation devices will operate in a different Android 12L.
Android 12L, an update to Google's mobile operating system that contains enhancements specifically tailored for large-screen smartphones, may also bring about software changes for the Z Fold 4.
Samsung S Pen on the Foldables
A part of the guesses on what features the Samsung foldables will have is the attached S Pen.
According to The Elec, Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 4 will have a screen size that is comparable to that of its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 3, as well as a slot specifically designed for the S Pen stylus.
According to the report, Samsung has just finalized its plan to make a designated slot on the foldable phone, much like the Galaxy Note series and the recently debuted Galaxy S22 Ultra. This will be similar to the design of the slot on the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
The Galaxy Z Fold 3, which was released the previous year, also included support for the S Pen, but the device did not come with a specific compartment designed to hold the stylus.
Instead, Samsung marketed and sold a separate cover attachment that was compatible with the S Pen and could be attached to the device.
The Fold 3 was not as successful as its sibling phone, the Galaxy Z Flip 3, in terms of unit sales, but the addition of the S Pen is expected to help close the gap.
Additionally, Samsung is anticipating that the incorporation of the S Pen on the Fold 4 will be a significant selling feature.
