Snapchat Users Reject Default 3D Bitmojis on Snapcodes

Users of the multimedia instant messaging app have taken to Twitter to express dismay over the 3D bitmojis that became the default after a recent update.

Snapchat appears to have decided that the 3D bitmojis are now the default for snapcodes. After a recent update, Snapchat users were shocked to find that 3D bitmojis on snapcodes are now the default and cannot be reverted back to its 2D versions, causing major backlash as seen in comments made by users on Twitter.

Snapchat was developed by Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy, and Reggie Brown, former students at Stanford University back in 2011. When it first launched, it became known as an app that took a new, mobile-first approach to social media, offering users a way to interact through messages and pictures that were only viewable for a short time.

The app has grown in popularity in the last 11 years of existence, with developers adding several functionalities, including stickers. In 2016, Snapchat's parent company Snap Inc. acquired Bitstrips, which enabled users to design personalized avatars for comic strips. These avatars were then incorporated into stickers in Snapchat and are now used as profile pictures, emojis, and decorations on snapcodes, ScreenRant reported.

But not a lot of Snapchat users are happy with the recent changes.

Snapchat Users Take to Twitter to Complain About Default 3D Bitmojis on Snapcodes

Following the recent Snapchat update, many users have taken to Twitter to express their strong distaste for the new default 3D bitmojis. Others who are experiencing the effects of the update are warning other Snapchat users not to update their apps.

Meanwhile, many users who are unhappy with the default 3D bitmojis on snapcodes are calling for Snap Inc. to revert to the old bitmojis. Others are so upset that they threatened to leave Snapchat altogether.

Last week, Snapchat replied to one user on Twitter who claimed that they were "losing [their] mind" over the update, which was "actually worsening [their] mental sanity," pleading with the company to bring back the 2D bitmoji.

Snapchat Support, the official account for the company's customer service, replied to acknowledge the user's concern and promised to "improve the Snapchat experience on both platforms, so some features may change over time." They said they would also share the feedback with their team.

Snapchat Releases Less-than-appealing Updates

Snapchat's features are always evolving and updating, so it is likely that the default 3D bitmojis on snapcodes would change, or that users could be given an option to choose between the 2D and 3D bitmojis. Recently, Snapchat released an update that enabled users to swipe vertically while in Spotlight, causing a circle to appear aropund ther bitmoji selfies when their stories are updated.

Such updates are also receiving mixed reviews. Backlash over Snapchat's new app updates come just a couple of weeks after Span Inc.'s stock sank to its lowest with a 39% drop. Analyst Rohit Kulkarni told Yahoo! Finance that the company is "going through a near-death experience" after posting dismal first and second quarter results.

JPMorgan analyst Doug Anmuth attributed the drop to TikTok's massive engagement and rapid monetization, Bloomberg reported. Snap Inc. did not issue financial guidance for the third quarter but said that it would substantially reduce hiring moving forward.
