The First Rolls-Royce EV, Spectre, is Currently Undergoing Testing

Rolls-Royce is taking its first electric car (EV) for another spin.

The British luxury car manufacturer has recently taken its Spectre EV on its second testing phase on the French Riviera in the pursuit of perfection, per Interesting Engineering.

The Spectre has no definite release rate as of the moment, but Rolls-Royce claims that first customer deliveries of its first EV will start in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Rolls-Royce mentioned in a press statement that it will now test its Spctre EV on the French Riviera following the successful first testing phase that determined if the car would hold its own despite sustaining abuse equal to more than 400 years of use.

The company mentioned that the first testing phase will also ensure that the Spectre is "first and foremost a Rolls-Royce."

Meanwhile, the Spectre's second testing phase will put the EV on the roads of the French Riviera, where it will encounter conditions that reflect the EV's eventual everyday use. The region was found ideal for the EV's testing as its roads provide "a perfect combination" of the types of conditions that will be demanded from the EV's drivers, ranging from technical coastal corniches to faster inland carriageways.

The test will be split into two parts that will allow the company to put the car through various testing environments and ensure it exceeds the company's standards.

The first part will begin at the Autodrome de Miramas proving ground. Once a circuit used during the 1926 Grand Prix, the Autodrome now provides more than 60 kilometers of closed routes and 20 test track environments that create various testing opportunities within its area.

On the other hand, the second phase involves taking the car for a spin in the Provençal countryside surrounding the Autodrome de Miramas.

According to the company, the second test phase will allow it to determine if Spectre meets and even exceed the expectations of its customer group.

The second part of the testing is crucial as 55% of it will occur in the same Provençal countryside that will play host to the many production Spectres that fall under Rolls-Royce's first customer deliveries.

Rolls-Royce Spectre Specifications And Other Details

If you haven't heard of the Spectre EV, Rolls-Royce describes it as "unlike any other car it ever made." The EV features a fully electric powertrain and "unprecedented" computing power and the application of advanced data-processing technologies.

It will also deliver the company's hallmark "magic carpet ride" feeling, which is being refined and perfected in its first and second test phases.

EV Supporter mentioned that the automaker has yet to confirm what battery is powering Spectre, but it is likely to have similar parts to the BMW i7's battery.

The BMWi7 features a 105 kWh battery that provides a range estimation of between 375 - 715 kilometers depending on the terrain, weather, and temperature, per EV Database.
