The price of Crusader Kings 3's (CK3) past and future DLC will soon be double what they are now.
CK3 game developer Paradox Interactive announced in its forums that it is doubling the price of past and future DLC for CK3 to offset the effect of the ongoing inflation.
The company has also advised players to buy the game's already released DLC at their current price while they still can to avoid paying a much higher price.
CK3 DLC Price Increase Details
Paradox mentioned in its announcement that it will be altering the prices of CK3's Flavor Packs to "reflect the overall value of this kind of content" moving forward. This alteration means that the price point of its two available DLCs, "Northern Lords" and "Fate of Iberia," as well as future flavor packs, are doubled starting Sept. 13.
As such, all past and future flavor packs for the game will now have a price tag of $12.99 instead of $6.99.
The price change will not affect the price of the base game and its expansions and bundles, such as the "Royal Court" and the "Royal Edition," respectively.
"if you are already a holder of the Royal Edition or Expansion Pack 1, you are all set and nothing will change for you and your versions of the game," Paradox said.
In addition to the increased price warning, Paradox also advised players to purchase CK3's DLC before Sept. 13 to avoid paying a higher price.
Although Paradox didn't disclose why it is increasing prices, The Gamer reports that Paradox was forced to increase prices due to the effects of the ongoing inflation in Sweden, Paradox's home country.
CK3 Player Outrage
CK3 players are understandably frustrated with Paradox for increasing the prices of the game's flavor packs. The developer's announcement alone received 207 negative reactions from players, while the replies to it were scathing, to say the least.
One CK3 player going by the name lunelune2413 criticized Paradox's decision to increase the price of the "Northern Lords" and "Fate of Iberia" flavor packs, saying that doing so is similar to Paradox "shooting [itself] in the foot" in the eyes of the community.
"I can't see how this will have any financial gain from it either," lunelune2413 said. "Most people who play CK3 have already bought these DLCs."
Eurogamer reported that many fans don't feel that the offering in the game's current flavor packs is worth the extra price, although the value of future flavor packs could warrant the price increase.
CK3 players on Twitter have also expressed their outrage at Paradox's price increase, with some stating they won't buy any future releases for the game.
lunelune2413's point of increasing the prices of the game's first two flavor packs retroactively was also tackled extensively on the game's official Twitter page, with players asking Paradox if it made sense to increase the price of the flavor packs that are only worth $6.99.
It is unknown if Paradox will offer the game's first flavor pack, Northern Lods," at its original price once it becomes available to consoles later this year, per the game's official Twitter page.
