FromSoftware Finally Brings Dark Souls 3’s PC Servers Back Online After 7 Months

Dark Souls 3's online multiplayer is back for PC.

FromSoftware has recently announced on its official Twitter account that the PC servers for its highly acclaimed video game, Dark Souls 3, are back online following a seven-month outage.

The company has also apologized to the players for the long delay and wishes that those that waited to accept its "humble appreciation."

Dark Souls 3 PC Servers Status Details

FromSoftware mentioned in its announcement on Twitter that the online servers for the PC version of Dark Souls 3 have been restored, along with all multiplayer features for the game, per Games Radar.

It also announced the restoration on Dark Souls 3's Steam Events page.

As a result, Dark Souls 3's PC players can now invade worlds and be invaded by others as well. Gameranx mentioned that the in-game messaging system, PvP gameplay, and "a number of other aspects of gameplay" have also returned to the game.

The announcement also comes with an apology from a FromSoftware employee, Yasuhiro Kitao, who mentioned that the company is sorry to have kept the game's PC players waiting for so long.

Yasuhiro also asked players who are still waiting for the game's online features to be restored to accept FromSoftware's "humble appreciation" for sticking to the game.

The same request was also made to the people waiting for the restoration of the other Dark Souls games, which are Dark Souls: Remastered, Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition, and Dark Souls 2, per PCGamesN.

FromSoftware also confirmed that it is currently working on restoring the online functions of the other Dark Souls games for PC players, but the company didn't disclose a time frame.

You may remember that servers for all Dark Souls games suddenly became disabled in January following the discovery of a security vulnerability that could affect anyone playing Dark Souls 3 online, per Rock Paper Shotgun.

What Went Wrong

According to Kaspersky, the vulnerability FromSoftware found was an RCE vulnerability that allows hackers to remotely execute an arbitrary code on a victim's computer.

This vulnerability is dangerous as it allows the hacker to steal confidential data or remotely run any program n the victim's computer.

Fanbyte mentioned in its article that LukeYui, the creator of the popular Dark Souls security mod "Blue Sentinel," and nrssr, the player who discovered and demonstrated the vulnerability, mentioned that they meant no harm. They added that they only created the exploit to inform FromSoftware about its seriousness.

However, FromSoftware allegedly ignored his messages, which led them to hack a popular streamer right during their streaming session.

The vulnerability was already being talked about in the Dark Souls community, with some claiming that hackers were using the game to run code on other players' PCs, allowing them to take over their computers through the vulnerability.

Although other reports claim that there are other players that publicly demonstrated the exploit, only nrssr's was found to be legitimate.
