Nexus 4 customers will get money refunded to them if they purchased the handset between Aug. 12 and Aug. 28.
Google recently reduced the price of the Nexus 4 by $100. The company reduced the price of the 8GB version to $199 and the 16GB version to $249. Previously, the smartphone was sold for $299 (8GB) and $349 (16GB).
The company has posted an update on its support page asking customers to submit a web form that should enable the refund process.
"Please fill out one request form for each device eligible for a price protection refund. Be sure to enter the requested information carefully, as typos and incorrect asset numbers may cause your request to be denied. Before submitting this form, double check that you made your purchase within 15 days before the said price reduction," explains the Google Support page.
Google launched the Nexus 4 in Oct. 2012 and the handset was released a month later in November. However, the Nexus 4 was surrounded with supply issues ever since its release, which resulted in a large number of unhappy customers unable to get hold of the smartphone.
The handset packs in top-end features at a pocket-friendly price. The price of the smartphone attracted many customers globally, but the supplies of the Nexus 4 couldn't meet the high consumer demand.
The recent price reduction is a major decrease in the value of the handset, which is now around a third of the original asking price. Customers who have taken the handset in the last 15 days would undoubtedly be happy to get a refund from Google. However, customers who have bought the handset just over 15 days may feel disappointed with their purchase.
Usually, businesses reduce the price of their devices when an upgrade is soon expected to arrive in the market. Google has not confirmed if it's planning to launch the Nexus 5 soon, but rumors suggest that the next-generation Nexus smartphone may make its way to the shelves sooner rather than later. Judging by Google's past launch schedules, a brand new Nexus smartphone should make its debut within the next few months.
