Twitter's Paid Users Will Get an Edit Button

After several years of demand, Twitter will soon allow its users to edit their tweets through a feature that is only accessible once a user acquires a $4.99 Twitter Blue subscription.

An Editing Button Will Be Available for Twitter Blue Subscribers Soon

Twitter is now going against its own word since, after 15 years, it is currently testing a feature its former CEO Jack Dorsey said they would never enforce.

Gizmodo reported, that Twitter surprised its users after announcing on Thursday, September 1, that it is internally testing an edit button feature that will be called "Edit Tweet."

According to its tweet via its official account, "if you see an edited tweet, it's because we're testing the edit button." It additionally said, "this is happening, and you'll be okay."

However, given that they have been asking for the feature for years but have only received indirect responses from the platform, many users are doubtful. Twitter has even announced that it was creating the edit button in April as an April Fools' joke.

In a blog post, the platform said it would make the feature available in the following weeks (via Reuters). However, it will only be accessible to Twitter Blue subscribers, who pay $4.99 per month. They will have the chance to edit their tweet a few times 30 minutes after they have been posted.

Even after a tweet has been edited, the original will not disappear. Once users click on a tweet's label, they will have access to its edit history, thus seeing its previous versions. Additionally, icon time stamps will also appear on an edited tweet to indicate that it has been modified.

In the blog, Twitter also said, "Think of it as a short period of time to do things like fix typos, add missed tags, and more," pertaining to its upcoming feature.

For the past years, the said capability has long been persisting on other social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram, which reports said will soon have premium paid services.

Twitter Circle Now Available for Everyone

In May, Twitter has been experimenting with a feature similar to Instagram's Close Friends that lets its users pick up to 150 people who can view some of their tweets that are not intended for general public view.

According to a report from The Verge on Tuesday, August 30, the said feature, which is known as Twitter Circle, is now accessible to everyone. With this, users can now pick their Circle and post things on the platform which only a few chosen people can see.

To enable this privacy feature, a user should first open the tweet composer to find the dropdown menu at the top, click 'Circle,' then hit 'Edit' to start picking who they want to include in their list. After these, those people who are in a user's 'Circle' may see a highlighted badge that says, "Only people in @[username]'s Twitter Circle can see this tweet," once they post something exclusively for the Circle.

The feature is highly beneficial, especially for individuals who consider the platform as their personal public journal, since it protects users' private information without them having the need to switch their accounts to private. However, it does not remove others' capabilities of taking a screenshot of one's posts, and Twitter regulations still apply to everything a user tweets inside their Circle.
