Social media is quickly evolving. In the past, if you wanted to attract attention and gain followers, you had to stand out in a crowd and provide news or intriguing information.

Nowadays, the majority of social networking platforms allow you to quickly and easily repost a status so that millions of people can view it right away.

Instagram, in contrast to other social media platforms, has never offered a straightforward way to share or repost other people's content.

But this might change soon.

Instagram's Repost Feature

According to Digitaltrends, there are currently two popular ways where Instagram users can share other people's content. The first is by taking a screenshot of other people's content and re-uploading it on the social media platform. Second, by downloading a third-party app that lets you repost a particular content, such as Repost: For Instagram (for iOS and Android).

However, the Meta-owned company is planning to start testing an in-app repost feature with a selected number of users, according to TechCrunch.

"We're exploring the ability to reshare posts in Feed - similar to how you can reshare in Stories," a Meta spokesperson told TechCrunch, adding, "so people can share what resonates with them, and so original creators are credited for their work."

What Does the Repost Tab Look Like?

Social media consultant Matt Navarra shared a screenshot of the Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri's profile page, which had a repost tab.

The repost tab, which was discovered for the first time by Navarra, is probably where all of the posts that users have shared on their profiles will be kept.

This is different with the the "repost" feature that TikTok's has been testing, where reposted videos on TikTok don't show up on your own TikTok profile. This is because with this TikTok feature, the content that you share will only be sent out to your friends' For You feeds.

Instagram Repost Feature Can benefit Creators

Memes and pictures that have been re-uploaded on Instagram frequently lack the credits of their original creators. The repost feature could, therefore, help in ensuring that original creators are given credit when their post is extensively disseminated.

However, it is worth noting that there is no assurance that Instagram's repost feature will be permanently part of the social media platform because this is just a test feature.

Will All Instagram Users Welcome the Repost Feature?

Nobody is certain whether or not all Instagram users will welcome the repost feature. This is especially true considering that some of Instagram's newest features have received criticism from some users.

Some Instagram users have actually called for the platform to return to its origins rather than clamoring for more features.

This Is Not the First Times Someone Spotted Instagram's Repost Feature

The feature was found in development back in May by app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi, as shown in the tweet below.
