Google Leak Suggests Latest Chromecast HD Is on Android 12 With Free Google TV

Google's latest Chromecast HD will be supported on Android 12.

There has been a leak that states the newest Chromecast device from Google has an official project name of "Chromecast HD,"which most likely points to it becoming the official name of the device.

Aside from the official project name, it is also believed the device will downgrade from its usual Chromecast feature of 2GB. Additionally, the newest device is also speculated to be released at the Made by Google event in October.

Google's Chromecast HD Leak

Google's Chromecast might be revealed later this year. According to 9To5Google, the latest news about the device was acquired by a developer named Kuba Wojciechowski, who has been following the company's progress with Chromecast.

Wojciechowski revealed a ton of new details that he had found. It has been rumored and speculated for a long time that the most recent Chromecast offering from the company will come with a free Google TV.

From the information that was obtained through the leak, the operating system of the device will be built on Android 12, making it the very first Google TV 12 streamer. To provide some background, know that the previous version of Chromecast was still based on Android 10.

Based on specifications, the hardware will come equipped with an Amlogic S805X2 chipset. The currently available Chromecast does not have support for AV1 decoding, but this chip does. Despite this, the chip is still a significant step down from the 4K model.

With the newest chipset, the video quality of the device can still provide high-definition content streaming but will not be able to feature streaming at a 4K resolution. The absence of the 4K feature is because it does not have the same power as the S905X3 in the previous 4K Chromecast.

Google's Update for Chromecast HD

Google is designing the newest Chromecast HD with an added feature that gives users the ease of accessible updates.

Assistance for virtual A/B seamless updates with compression will be included by default on the device when it ships. Due to this mode of updating, the storage limitations of the first-generation Chromecast with Google TV will no longer apply, which will, in turn, make it possible for users to receive regular updates for their own devices.

This new capability, which Google will be building into the Chromecast HD, is a major upgrade because the previous generation of 4K Chromecasts had major flaws, such as a limited amount of space for software updates.

Google's October Event: Made by Google

Google will conduct a launching event to unveil its newest devices this October. There have been rumors stating that the Chromecast HD might make it to the launching event, although Google has not yet confirmed.

As iTechPost reports, on October 6, 2022, at 10 a.m. ET, the tech company is expected to release their newest devices such as Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Google Pixel Watch, and the latest Nest update.

This launch will also be significant for the company as they introduce the first smartwatch they designed and built, which is the Google Pixel Watch. The smartwatch is also designed with compatibility for Fitbit and Google assistance.

These devices have been previously teased to its customers during the Google I/O last May. The event, just like any other launching event during the pandemic, will be streamed live on its official website.

The Made by Google event will also invite a limited number of people to witness the launch in-person.
