When Amazon launched its first Kindle e-reader, it wasn't the first on the market, but it soon became the best. The company has just announced an all-new Kindle Papwerwhite.
In 2007 Amazon launched its very first Kindle e-reader. It joined competing e-readers, but thanks to Amazon's large book library and the way users were able to purchase books wirelessly, it soon became the standard that all of its rivals would have to learn to contend with. When the original Kindle went on sale in November of 2007, the device sold out in five and a half hours and remained out of stock until April 2008. In that time, Amazon's Kindle e-readers have become to the best selling e-readers on the market.
Amazon has launched new Kindles every year since then and it has just announced its latest model, the all-new Kindle Paperwhite. It will replace the previous generation Paperwhite Amazon launched last year and bring with it many improved features. It now features an even brighter and whiter screen with darker text. Its high-resolution display allows users to choose high quality fonts that have been finely tuned at the pixel level for maximum readability and comfort.
The new Paperwhite also includes a 25 percent faster processor over its predecessor, which allows for faster and easier page turns and more accurate response on its touchscreen. It also comes with a new Page Flip feature that allows you to skim page-by-page, scanning chapters, or skipping to the end of a book without ever losing your place in the book you're currently reading.
The all-new Kindle Paperwhite features Amazon's 6-inch Paperwhite display with exclusive Carta e-paper technology and next-generation built-in light, a pixel density of 212 pixels per inch (ppi), optimized font technology, and 16-level gray scale. It includes 2GB of internal storage, which will hold approximately 1,100 books. Battery life has also been improved, with a single charge lasting up to 8 weeks. The Paperwhite will be offered in a Wi-Fi only model and a Wi-Fi + 3G model.
Amazon is now taking pre-orders for the Kindle Paperwhite (Wi-Fi only) for $119 and the Kindle Paperwhite 3G for $189. It will begin shipping the Wi-Fi model beginning on September 30 and the Papwerwhite 3G beginning on November 5.
